A masterpiece that blends real-time strategy, city-building, and competitive play like no other.

I grew up playing Age of Empires II throughout the early 2000s . As a young child, I loved AoE II for the city-building. The idea of making my own bustling town with villagers, castles, and an army to fight with felt "magical" to me. In 2007, I switched to playing Age of Empires III. It wasn't until this year that I have returned to playing Age of Empires II.

And boy will I tell you, it has brought back good memories of this game I didn't know I had :). The Definitive Edition had the same city-building and core mechanics I grew up loving, all while looking better.

Now, I have come to fully appreciate the gameplay of Age of Empires II. The updated online multiplayer of Definitive Edition has brought me the joy of "outsmarting" my opponents. There is nothing like predicting and countering your opponent while keeping your aesthetically-pleasing city safe.

Whether you are a casual city-builder that likes some action, or competitive player that is hooked on "outsmarting" his opponents, I would highly recommend Age of Empires II Definitive Edition.
