It's a good premise, and figuring out how to build cool vehicles is fun. Bought it on sale, not realizing it was a cute little micro-transaction hell. Really disappointed. Expect half the game to be paywalled. Devs are clearly not trying to make a good game, but grab people quick. I expect this to not last as long as it could've if they went in a different direction.

I'm glad I've had time before being allowed to review, because my recommendation would've been different. I thoroughly enjoy the game, although I was put off at first by the story and characters. They tend to get more interesting after a few hours. The story premise just... throws itself at you without any interesting introduction, lore, or characterization at all. I was completely bored at first, until it went on and got slightly more complex.

If you like Fallout, then this is a hugely improved Fallout, from the companions, persuasion system, combat, and RPG elements. I haven't gotten into base/ship building yet after 9 hours, but I can't wait. The Fallout series has always been a little by campy and just to the left of serious. This is like that, but a much less depressing world.

Performance is good... relatively. I am able to play it on ultra in 4k with occasional hiccups, but that requires a high end system. So far I've encountered few bugs (amazing for a Bethesda game). The only one that comes to mind is if I move the mouse a little while using a controller, the cursor is an hourglass and *never* goes away until I exit the game and start over... hoping they fix that one soon.

I feel like most of the negative reviews are from people who haven't played a slow, grindy, sparse game before, ever. Minecraft, Eco, Space Engineers, etc, are not exactly "exciting" games. They are enjoyable. I would've liked to see some sort of main ship we could get that holds a ton of stuff, and then undock with the little flyers for exploration. Gameplay-wise, I'm not really complaining yet. Hello Games really needs to work on full screen mode vs "borderless" windowed however... neither work very well at all. Trying to minimize full screen will crash the game, and borderless windowed has a border at the top. It also doesn't want to fit your monitor right.

Needs optimization and perhaps some extra DLC content. The base game is sound though. If exploration games aren't your thing, and you wanted Elite Dangerous, then go pay however many hundred dollars it is for that whole game... seriously.
