I thought it was borderline impossible to make DooM 2016 better. Like, I really had to nitpick to find anything wrong with that game. Slick gunplay, great music, and lots of demons to rip and tear. What more can you ask for?

More of everything apparently, because that's what DooM Eternal is: everything that made 2016 such a good experience but cranked up to 11. The combat and gunplay cycle is quite a lot less forgiving, which takes some getting used to but that makes it quite a lot more satisfying when you manage to take down armies of the damned by yourself. There is a bit more of a balancing act here, I found myself needing to balance my weapon use to get certain resources (armor, health, ammo). I personally enjoyed that part, ymmv though. The music is also even more dirty, aggressive. Hellish. Mick Gordon really did well with 2016's OST, but Eternal's knocked it outta the park. Really is a shame the OST can't be bought anywhere, I'd give quite a lot to see that happen. The demons are fantastic as well. Classics like the Pinkies and Revenants are still here, while others like the Archvile return just to make life more difficult. Not only are there more demons, there are even more ways to kill them.

The only complaints I have? Maybe a bit much hand-holding. And ffs pls release the OST k thencc.

Otherwise I'd rate this game a solid 9/10 for taking everything good about 2016 and making it better.

Lemme just start off by saying this game is best reserved for those with a strong stomach or good VR... I dunno, "sea legs"? Things can get pretty intense at times, I'm no seasoned veteran myself which meant it took me a little while to get used to being flung around, jumping, walking, and falling without moving in the real world. With that being said...

I honestly think Boneworks is gonna be one of those VR games we look back upon with a great amount of respect, a turning point for VR gaming as a whole. It's not perfect... interactions can be pretty janky and hard to get used to, the physics are a little weird too, sometimes entering the uncanny valley and other times making not much of any sense at all. There are bugs (for example, your arms can get stuck in objects like ladders and prevent you from moving). And the game's story, while definitely there, is a little hard to understand at times. I also think there should be some more variety to the enemies and weapons.

That's not to say there isn't a lot of good to mention here though. One thing I really like is the feeling of progression. This isn't a wave shooter... no, Boneworks is a proper adventure. Levels are often made up of large scale physics based puzzles (think Portal or Half-Life style), and it's so damn satisfying to find your way through. The enemies are really neat too. There aren't many types but they still offer a challenge. More importantly, Boneworks' emphasis on physics means you have tons of options for killing. Boneworks nails this aspect of play. Gunplay feels smooth and rather intuitive, and the haptic feedback is superb. Melee fighting feels great too, and if anything, is more fun to use when not being run down by a hoard of NullBodies. There's so much variety, as pretty much any object in the game can be used to inflict damage, from knives to bricks. From facestabbing NullBodies to breaking the legs of Crablets, there are so many ways to make your enemies suffer.

...

Anyways, point is, combat in Boneworks is great. I also really dig the visuals. Once you leave the museum, the game's sort of "training ground", everything feels so dystopian. There's always a tension in the air. Very much like Half-Life titles. And the music... it's mostly this sort of synthwave-y stuff. Not only does it fit very well with the gameplay, but it's just outright good. Like, "listen to the soundtrack now if you haven't already" good.

Anyways, to sum everything up, again, this game isn't perfect. But it's still very good, maybe even revolutionary in some ways. I hope more future VR titles can build upon the platform this game has created.

Note: I received this game for free on a recent Humble Bundle sale.

I recently finished all of the main levels, and I'm starting on some of the other side content, here's what I have to say so far:

The concept and gameplay are both pretty neat, you take on the role of an illegal cleaner taking care of his mother in 70s America, making a buck by removing evidence from crime scenes (be it bodies, blood, or other pickups such as clothing and guns) without getting busted by the cops. Seems simple enough I guess. As with any game of this nature the levels progress from "easy as pie" to "rage inducing", at least to me. Level design is quite good, cops are usually placed where they make life difficult, which just adds to the fun, and the levels themselves have plenty of interesting hiding spots and shortcuts to use. In later levels you can take advantage of movable level elements and sound generators to stop cops in their tracks or keep them distracted long enough to hoover up some more blood or nab a body. There are also a decent number of enemy types with various different strengths. There is one thing I haven't mentioned yet: you only have one hit point. So if you get caught even once there's no chance of escaping, no fighting back, you have to restart the level. This was quite annoying at first, but I found that in the more complex levels it only raised the amount of satisfaction I felt after making a clean getaway. The story is pretty good too.

Difficulty wise? Depends. If you're a stealth game master of sorts you'll prolly be able to finish in a few hours tops. But I am not a stealth game master, and as such it took me about 14 hours or so to complete all the base levels. Lots of retries on the later levels.

Visually and aurally this game is quite unique, at least to me, I've never seen or heard anything like it before. I really dig the art style. It's simplistic compared to 3D games but extremely effective, lots of 70s vibes. The music is damn good too, and really helps to build the atmosphere, I ended up buying the soundtrack because I wanted to support the devs myself but also because it's just really damn good.

All in all it's a very solid game, and it gets my recommendation. $15 is a little expensive though, at that price the OST should probably be included in the purchase. Still, had I heard about this game before the Humble Bundle deal I would have bought it at that price.

I like this game. An awful lot. It may not be nearly as established as The regular TS series (waaaay fewer locos and routes) but it's quite fun. There are some bugs that need patching, for example the taskbar refuses to hide and dynamic brakes are far more effective than they should be on one of the locos. And it needs optimization, if your CPU doesn't have high single core performance you can kiss high frame rates goodbye. But otherwise it's a good game, can't wait until the devs add in steamers.

Early Access Review
Just saying, I do mention a few of the creatures and biomes (not direcly but whatever) in the game. If you're new and don't want to know about anything in the game until you see it yourself, don't read this review. Just thought I'd put that out there.

So, Subnautica... sorta like a (better) underwater verison of Minecraft. You crash land on some planet, and the rest is history. So, what do I think? Well, I'll get the bad out of the way first... the performance is "meh". Most of the time the game runs smoothly, but due to terraforming (which is getting removed according to the timeline) performance will take some pretty sizeable hits at random as the game saves and loads chunks. But for the most part it runs smooth enough. It also doesn't require the latest and greatest GTXMLG420ROCKETORGASMO10,000 graphics card... While I was waiting for my 1080 Ti to arrive I was using a GT 545 and it ran smoothly at 720p low settings (which still look nice). Subnautica also seems to properly support ultrawide monitors, which is a huge plus. The game looks beautiful. The only minor annoyance is the goggles which need to be removed by pressing f6 every time the game starts (or a large chunk of the left and right sides of the display are taken up by the insides of the goggles, hopefully this will change). So, what about gameplay? Well, this is where Subnautica shines. In creative mode, it's incredibly fun and interesting to explore the vast biomes spread throughout the world. In survival mode, you're constantly on the move, searching for materials and food, although if you're in challenge you don't need to worry about food, definitely nice if you don't like constantly hunting for rood and instead just making your base and exploring. Be prepared for plenty of resistance though. Whether it be because of depth, radiation, or "ol' ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" as I like to call him, you're gonna need to work quite a lot to acchieve anything. It's definitely nice having a game that offers a good challenge though, I'm not complaining. Oh yeah, the wildlife and diversity... it's, beautiful. There are so many life forms to be found in Subnautica. From the ever so common peeper, to the gentle giant reefback, to the reaper. And they're srtill adding life forms into the game. There are also lots of plants to use in crafting,m as decor, etc. The biomes are also incredible. From floating islands to underwater rivers, the game has lots of diversity. Oh yeah, the story is... very interesting to say the least. I'm not gonna say anything, look it up yourself or play the game to find out. Just wanted to say it's awesome though. Overall, Subnautica is a fantastic game. Sure it doesn't run that great but that should change soon (well, I hope anyways). If you've got the means to buy this game, I recommend doing so.

I honestly don't know what to say. Super hot is one of my all time favorite games. Based on such a simple concept. I'm honestly amazed about the amount of fun I've had playing this game. The controls are sharp, the gameplay is tense, especially when you're being ambushed from practically all sides. And the side story adds to the experience. This game gets my seal of approval.

This test makes my desktop sweat and my laptop cry. And my lights flicker. Maybe I need to move. Either way, 10/10

Definitely a very good game overall. Gave us some of thje challenge that I personally believe was missing from gp2. That said, it would be nice if the devs could work in a graphics mode that even remotely challenges high end machines, i.e revised shadows and super high res textures and landscaping.
