In it's current state this game can feel pay to win at times but the system of separating players among different arenas based on their number of wins limits this to some degree. All players within the same arena will in theory have similar access to the number of towers and upgrades for those towers. This creates a nice and gradual sense of progression as with better towers and upgrades matches will last longer and go into later rounds more often as you progress through the arenas. In practice this is still true but not always. With the nature of a game like this which requires grinding to even compete at higher levels, paired with the option to speed up this grinding with VIP, you'll often encounter opponents who are either far more equipped to last longer into the later rounds due to having more or better upgrades available, or who are far less equipped as they are grinding exp for one or two of their towers which doesn't have as many upgrades unlocked. The arena system does limit this to some extent, but many players find it easier to grind in lower arenas and as a result purposefully attempt to stay within in them. Nowhere is this more true than the earlier arenas and the penultimate arena as once the final arena is reached, there is no way to return to any of the previous ones.
The actual battles that are the game's namesake are quite fun despite this however. The fun and strategy behind each match comes from knowing you and your opponents weaknesses, exploiting theirs, and minimizing yours. Even if in theory your opponent should win because they have better towers with better upgrades, keen observation and your knowledge of what their towers' limits are can still allow you to squeeze out a win. The opposite is also true so it's never a good idea to underestimate any opponent or their defense. It keeps you on your toes and commands your attention in the same way the original BTD Battles did but doesn't contain all of the unique, and sometimes controversial, elements from it. When compared I'd say it's a more "pure" experience than current BTD Battles. Even so I hope that in the future some elements from that game make their way into this game.
Overall if you were a fan of the original or the more competitive game modes of normal Bloons Tower Defense I'd highly recommend this game. There aren't many problems with it but those few problems are obvious and can easily be fixed in future updates. Ninja Kiwi has already shown some interest in making the game more fun and balanced with an update within the first few days of release. If development is anything like development of BTD 6 then we can expect balance changes almost as often as with that game.

Easily the best game I've played this year. I absolutely love the aesthetic of the world and the use of nodding to communicate. Overall it's just a very unique experience. Just remember to go to sleep on time.

A super fun, fast paced, stealth platformer with great visuals. This game is honestly very amazing and and very difficult while still being fair. I would really recommend trying it out.
