I played the demo a bit.

I played the final version a bit.

Needs more players but otherwise it's fun.

Early Access Review
Played Ironteeth on hard for the first time since badwater was added. Cycle 10, after letting my population grow too fast, and in a badtide following two 12 day droughts with only 3 days between to restock my water supply, I lost all 50 beavers. I let the game continue because I had 3 babies growing in the breeding tanks. I waited and watched. For days and days. As the babies slowly grew older. At 98% growth they each died, lonely desolate deaths. Starving. Thirsty. Exhausted. If only I had created a death district earlier I could have avoided complete population collapse.

10/10 will overestimate my settlements capabilities again and watch them all die.

Update: After a few more updates and some work on my part to make my PC generally happier in its life, it's better. I still wouldn't recommend paying full price for this though. Maybe if you can get a good deal?

If you want to play it, either fish out your PS3 or use RPCSX3. You're bound to have a less frustrating experience.

I definitely got a good deal with the current discount. The tutorial doesn't dump too much on you at once or drag its time on ideas it's already rehashed and after the basic stuff is done, it's easy to turn off and start investigating yourself. An interesting resource management game that I'm sure I will continue to enjoy beyond the 3 or so hours I've spent so far.

I know there's only half an hour here, but I played many hours of the original SMS game, as I'm sure a lot of you others have too. Alex feels mostly the same, but some mechanics have changed ever so slightly in this version: Alex can't jump out of the bounds of the screen like he could on the SMS (makes jumping from a higher platform pretty impossible if I'm being honest), and other things like "sitting on the back of the octopus and punching like mad" to kill it just isn't a viable option anymore (making killing that octopus to get to the secret island a bit more difficult than it used to be!). I may be misremembering things on how to get rid of a ghost if you punch one out of a ? block but i'm pretty sure it used to be "punch three money blocks and it'll disappear" - not anymore?

Also the "JAN KEN PON screens" during the janken battles - "JAN KEN NO" - i don't like it. It distracts from the actual game.

Despite all this, I'd still recommend this game to people as the original is a classic and this provides some nice updates to it.

I have the original on CD somewhere, along with a lot of other Lucasarts classic adventures - Sam n Max hit the road, Monkey island 1 & 2 (though that CD was lent to a friend and he never returned it!), and (although they're not as 'classic' to me) Full Throttle and The Dig.

I never completed it when I got it, and being pre-ScummVM I had all kinds of problems getting audio to work properly. I ended up giving in on it for a long time (until I discovered ScummVM and tried again). The remaster manages to change just enough to "look better" without changing the art style at all. Nice.

The only negative thing I have to say is the default keyboard layout is awful - play with a controller for much more fun.

Just like the first one, it only took me about 10 minutes to fall in love.
