I picked up HD2 about a month or two back, and I've had an absolute blast playing with my friends. I often enjoy these kinds of coop type games where you are pitted in a small team against large amounts of generally weak enemies(hence my 1500 hours in Vermintide 2). It has some very interesting systems, rewards you for thinking a bit and cooperation can be very necessary to excel in higher difficulties(no surprise there, it's a coop game).

But I have to express one slight pet peeve I have about this game, which is how ridiculous the bots can be at higher difficulties. If you're not being shot at from every angle, you're being rag dolled to death and being caught it bad situations where you don't have your call down weapon and backpack is common.

To give an example of why it seems like the bots are too strong, I played a difficulty 9 mission for the first time against bugs with my friend earlier. The mission was difficult but we actually made it through. Later, we decided to contribute to the current Super Earth mission and fight bots at difficulty 7; we failed at least half of our missions. This is at 2 difficulties lower than the mission against Terminids! I suppose it's not a huge surprise that people don't seem to like fighting bots very much; it is often the case when Super Earth gives a mission that is related to bots that they often fail; if you've been around the block a little in this game, it becomes apparent that a lot of people don't seem to like fighting bots as it is often the case that the invasion of bug territory generally goes pretty well, while against bots we often don't have that many planets captured. This is a balance issue that the game devs should probably address.

Tl;dr: Great game but bots OP, please nerf.

Early Access Review
Witch Hunt is exactly what it sounds like: An old-timey romp through the woods abound with the supernatural.

Don't expect anything special in regards to story for this game. The backstory is absolutely minimal and there are only 3 friendly NPCs you can have a conversation with, at maximum twice. But the game does not really focus on any of this. The game justifies your existence as bringer of supernatural justice by telling you that you are just that, and this is sufficient reasoning if perhaps a bit basic.

More than that, the game mainly focuses on exploration and combat. The game world is not exceptionally big, consisting of one large map and a town, but the gameplay is quite interesting with a unique style I've not seen before. Your main weapons are ye olde flintlock pistol and a rifle(with the pistol being quick to reload, and the rifle having superior range). These are quite powerful weapons and a well placed shot will put all but the strongest of generic enemies down; but you are in trouble if you fail to hit, as most enemies are melee and they will quickly mess your day up if you fail to put them down. Of course, that's where your sword comes in, so you're not screwed if you miss, but expect to take some damage at the least.

As a result of the quick-to-kill and quick-to-die style gameplay, staying aware of your surroundings is tantamount. This creates a tense atmosphere where perception is important and stopping to take a look around you when you hear an odd sound is never a bad idea.

The game starts out somewhat difficult. Not knowing what to do or how to react to enemies can sometimes get you killed if you aren't careful. Your health regeneration starts out low and it is difficult to keep your health high, and there is no reliable source of health other than waiting for the painfully slow regeneration to heal you or to take the(often long)hike back to town. However, as you acquire money to get perks the game becomes significantly easier giving you greater options for ways to retreat, survive and kill your enemies. There are sources of money spread throughout the map and early on looting these to buy more perks and character power is useful. It is also reccomended to acquire the bounty hunter perk as soon as it is available as this will provide a source of renewable income which will be extremely useful in getting new perks, and the teleport to town perk will allow the player to retreat if their health gets low for a bit of mana if need be.

As said, you are a witch hunter and you've made it your task to defeat the Monster of the Day. This follows a general theme and there are a few interesting twists. The fights are always interesting and the monsters very deadly if you aren't careful or perceptive of what could be a deadly attack, and yes they do indeed have them, so caution is advised. Once you defeat one monster, you will receive a reward from the town mayor and the minimalist backstory for the next Monster of the Day will appear and give you your justification for fighting the next.

That's all. You're a witch hunter, go kill something supernatural.
