I'm a great fan of rhythm games such as Elite Beat Agents, Friday Night Funkin, and Rhythm Heaven, and Melatonin is a wonderful rhythm game as a lofi-cozy version of the latter. Levels feature different mechanics, whether you have to repeat rhythmic notes like in PaRappa the Rapper or tap to the incoming beat.

Practice modes are like mini levels in themselves, to help you learn how to go through the level, with visual and audio cues that would really help you in figuring it out. -- On a personal level, I wish that Practice mode was nonstop, so that you could truly PRACTICE to get the beats right before deciding to move on to scored/hard mode. There were a few levels where I finished the practice mode but was still unsure how to perfectly time my key presses. I wish I had more practice time, because I can say that I only got through some levels relying on the visual cues because I couldn't figure out the audio ones.

The visuals are crazy aesthetic and yet wild as it captures how weird dreams can be. It looks great, and the music is top notch. It's hard to not bob your head to the beat while playing. The levels themselves are really fun to go through, and I love how lengthy these songs are as well, as it really lets you get into the groove of the song as you play. Some levels, as mentioned, miight have you rely on the visual cues more than others. Shame as I'd like to play this game blindfolded sometime.

It's rather easy to get through the entire game in one sitting, but don't get me wrong , it's gonna take you a good while to not only get 3 stars/rings on every level, and longer to get all of them perfect. For most players, I'd recommend to just finish the game, but for those that want to grind away to perfect these levels, I can say that Melatonin has a great replay value and it's really satisfying to perfect them (and very frustrating when you almost do heh)

Had Melatonin on my wishlist for the longest time, and I'm glad to own it now. I'm excited to see what Half Asleep has to offer us, such as DLC or similar games. This is a definite recommend in my book.
