Better than Tarkov. Fewer cheaters. Less desync.

This game is the best if you are into competitive fighting games. Don't buy it if you are a casual, offline player because the solo content is garbage.

This is the Early Access survival game you have been waiting for. I would write a longer review but I am spending too much time playing... Bravo, devs. You have truly created something special.

The game no longer works for me. I can't join a single server. Even when I could join servers there was virtually no content.

Steam needs to update its Early Access policy (again) for the good of its customers. We deserve some kind of protection against these kind of cash grab games. Steam is not Kickstarter.

Update 28.01.2016: Can't justify my support of this game any longer. I would not suggest purchasing this software unless you want to play it in its current state.

After 200 hours in this game I can honestly say that it is a flawed sandbox experience that will drain all of your time. There is a lot wrong with the game right now.

The players are quite horrible to each other and the learning curve isn't steep but a lot of patience is required. It is filled with bugs and lacks features. You will be killed due to bugs or unseen snipers more times than you can count. There are already several working hacks for the game and exploits abound. Don't try to enter a jail cell on a high population server or you will be instantly killed by wall glitchers. The only thing to do in the game right now is gear up, murder and roleplay. You will become frustrated with the elitist "hardcore" community. Most players have become so jaded that they won't even attempt player interaction. DayZ currently offers a slow shooter experience that is unparalleled but it will never be more than this. Sure they will add hunting, crafting and vehicles but it will never offer a "true" survival experience ala Walking Dead. It will only be a slightly improved version of DayZ mod.

After all of these negatives I do recommend the game. DayZ mod is great and Standalone will (eventually) have everything the mod has with better graphics. It's good fun, especially if you have friends. But, please, don't expect too much. Even the game's creator said it, DayZ is a fundamentally flawed experience and will never become the great multiplayer game he wishes it could be.
