Loved OG Stalker and the vibes of Escape from Tarkov but single player and with mutants. Played on launch (Nov. 20, 2024) and was very buggy and unoptimized AS HELL. I couldn't stomach it anymore and quit playing around the second safe town, don't know what's it called. Granted it was with a RTX 2070 but still, it was really bad. I DO NOT RECOMMEND it then.

As of Jan. 18, 2026, I STILL DO NOT RECOMMEND. I now have a RTX 5070 and it is still unoptimized as hell. I get around 50 fps, unstable, and buggy still. And somehow this time around, it felt even worse?! I just got a bug where everyone is talking in low pitch (sounds like slow-mo) then the game became increasingly laggy until it became a 5 fps powerpoint presentation. Reload doesn't solve it. Reload to a place 30mins before doesn't solve it. I just quit the game and will troubleshoot later after I write this bad review.

Look, I LIKE Stalker: CoP and SoC, plus played with mods after the base game. But with HoC, I REALLY, REALLY want to like it. But this...this I just can't handle it. This game is severely UNOPTIMIZED to shi- and very buggy. Will probably reinstall to play it in a year later to see if they ever optimized this. All I hope for is a stable 60 fps by the next time I reinstall this game.

As someone who has never played a CRPG, I fell in love with this game. The story 10/10, the sound track 10/10, the gameplay 10/10.

I remember the 1st week of this release. When you didn't play it, you are thinking about it. You want to get immerse into the world. "Down, down, down by the river" in your head on repeat.

The year of 2023 was saved by this game. Game of the Year, all years.

It takes SO LONG to start this game due to old engine. Played at launch for some time but easily got bored/sick of the LONG game start. I return and there's a whole bunch of bots. Nothing is being done. "Fun" while it last but not worth for me.

Liked it so far

Its great for new players like me. Easy prompts to tell me if my hand is "good" and ultimately losing to a full house. Great RNG.

Started up and expected the orginal feels of zombie escape. In short, its P2W Nexon ♥♥♥♥ that doesn't deserve a Counter Strike title. It turn the zombie mod into this F2P with cash shop and confusing crafting and 10 day rent a item or whatever.

You are better off playing CS 1.6 or Source Zombies.
