For years I've been saying "I wish there was another game like Fantasy Life." Nothing else really ever scratched that itch. I had super low expectations for this, especially after the mobile game. I’m amazed it’s as good as it is, against all odds.

A neat little game.

Numbers go up

I wanted to get back into Valheim but couldn’t find the motivation and this game scratched that itch. Like Valheim with a Victorian aesthetic. Not as far along in development as Valheim, so set expectations accordingly.

+ cool aesthetic
+ realms are an interesting approach to biomes and the ability to modify them in various ways is cool
+ recruited npc helpers are nice to have
+ performance seems okay enough, haven’t experienced noticeable lag or choppy framerate (on 1440 with a 3070)
+ building out with blueprints before adding materials lets you plan before committing
+ being able to move full chests without having to empty and destroy them is always a plus
+ can craft and build from storage (with distance limitations)

- recruit AI needs work. Performs well in combat but everywhere else they’re kind of useless.
- controller support isn’t perfect, in particular within the crafting and building menus. I believe they said controller support is a work in progress.
- how the portals and realm cards work is confusing at first.
- there are a lot of variations of crafted items depending on what materials you use which feels a little messy and convoluted.
- game doesn’t always explain things well or at all, expect to be googling.

Overall enjoying my time in the early game so far.
