A great first "real" rougelike. Lite enough for new comers but still plenty difficult.

The "Mod Update" breaks the game. You can no longer access the graphical options menu and performance is tanked. I went from a stable 144 (outdoors) and 90's (indoors) on my 6800XT to less than 20FPS in menus and a slideshow of less than 1fps anywhere in game.

Issue was reported months ago and WBG/Alavanche are still "Investigating" the issue with no fix in sight.

Do NOT buy this broken game!

Early Access Review
I'm not sure what all the hype about this game is. It seems this game is designed in such a way that the overall goal is to annoy the player as much as possible.

For example, being constantly under siege by level 1 early game mobs throughout the entire duration of the game, with more spawning the later into the game you get, is nothing more than tedious and obnoxious.

All your actions also trigger these same level 1 trash mobs to spawn and assault you.

Chop down a tree? Greylings spawn and come attack you.
Cut the large log from said tree. More greylings spawn to attack you.
Chop the two smaller logs from that big log? Even more greylings.
Mine some ores? You guessed it, yet more greylings!
Boss fight? Greylings as adds! WOO!

Then of course the other issue with these mobs is that they drop materials either in not useful quantities (one wood piece oh boy) or they drop materials you have no real use for until much later (their eyes) or so much you don't know what to do with it (sap).

Game mechanics are also poorly explained. Hugin the crow tells you the absolute barebones information to get you going. There are runestones that give hints but since they're procedurally generated you might never run into one when you actually need to know how to do something.

Sailing. I don't even know where to start. It's absolutely awful. Everyone complains about Wind Waker's sailing but man this game is so much worse in every way possible. Better pray to RNGesus that it's blowing in a favourable direction or you're going to get stuck AFKing out in the middle of no where while also hoping *spoilers* doesn't *spoil*.

Mob diversity sucks. In the very early game you fight against one monster (greylings) deer and pigs. When you get to the next Biome you can add in skeletons and the very rare ghost with a rare "miniboss". So like 4 hours into the game and you've encountered a total of 3 different monster types and 1 miniboss. I'm not counting seagulls as they don't fight back.

And oh boy does the game run like complete garbage. I run a 5600X with a GTX 970 and have to run on almost lowest settings to get 40-60 fps @ 3440x1440. Even at 1080p I still can't manage a solid 60 with almost lowest settings. This has to be some of the worst usage of Unity so far.

A cute and well done look at what it is like to have social issues. A lot of people negatively judge this game because it is short or because it's not a visual novel, despite some mislabeling it. Ignore all of those people and give it a go.

I feel as though this was designed to give you an understanding of how and why some people behave and react the way they do. You're supposed (again, opinion) see that for some people, even the most basic things can be extremely difficult. That we shouldn't be so quick to judge others without knowing the complete picture.

It's a free game you can complete quickly. Give it a go and learn something about others and possibly yourself.

I really want to recommend this game but, sadly, can't. Essentially, it's a Dwarf Fortress lite but with flawed and broken mechanics.

Most worthy of note hostile creatures can be either completelty avoided or impossible to deal with. Beetles have spawn rules similar to minecraft and thus will spawn in any unlit underground areas you have exposed. This WILL result in the FPS dieing due to them infinitely spawning. If you miss/forget one unlit tile, you might as well start a new map as you are now doomed.

The game also lacks depth. There's an okay at best selection of items to craft and sell but compared to its spiritual predecessor (DF) it's quite dissapointing. The same can be said for hostile and friendly units alike.

While the grapical presentation isn't bad, it's also not great. Same is true for unit AI. Units will flee in just whatever direction is away from the current source of anguish only to run into something much worse.

The modding community does make up for a bit of this but it's no where near enough to keep the game interesting.

If you want an easy to play (and easy to master) intro to DF, Gnomoria might be for you otherwise skip it and save yourself time and money and just download the real deal.

If your a fan of MTG then you'll like this virtual variant. It has everything you have grown to love. 2012 brings some needed improvement upon the first DotP such as real online MP support and (finally) a deck editor.

Sadly, I can only say you will like this due to the fact that it has a deck editor and not a deck creator. You can not make your own custom white/green deck for example. You can only add and/or remove cards that you have unlocked (which at the moment is about 7).

7/10
