I've had this game for a long time, mostly I used to play it very on/off until very recently where I just suddenly *got it*. Whether the game got a little more accessible with time, I stopped being a coward and decided to expand more or something entirely different, the moment you stopped giving up on a colony about 25 cycles in is when the game starts to unlock itself.
I'll be honest, the game is pretty time-consuming and even stressful at times, but it's incredibly satisfying to succeed on the thousands of small tasks the game offers in every playthrough.
