Edit 5/5/2024 10PM PDT: they retracted it!

It's a great game, but SONY recently announced an upcoming mandatory link with a Playstation Network (PSN) account, a requirement that was hidden at launch (assigning fault for this miss is an ongoing discussion). This not only locks out massive portions of the playerbase in countries where PSN is not available, but also obliges players to give personal data to SONY, a company with a notorious history of data breaches and failed confidentiality.

From my experience, the infamous PC launch issues are gone. I'm running a GTX 1050Ti -- not the most high-end thing in the world -- and the game runs very smoothly.

It's a great game with a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ situation upstairs. The company (Overkill) had some financial troubles and while they seem to be recovering, do your research if you're particularly interested in long-term developer support. Otherwise there's still enough people for online games to be playable.

It's a shame the overhead is so subpar because otherwise it's an overall great game, with fantastic replayability, pretty cool theatrics and themes, and a killer soundtrack.

A simplish, cartoonish tower defense. The gameplay is pretty normal, nothing too outstanding there. The atmosphere is great however. Playful art and calm, catchy music make things relaxing.

Simple yet dynamic, spooky and fun. Also hard. Very hard. You die a lot, and when you die your progress is set back to level one. There are "checkpoints" every couple levels, but they're spread out pretty far between, especially considering the difficulty of each individual level. This may sound frustrating, but I do think that without this aspect the game wouldn't be embracing the unforgiving lack of mercy that makes it good.

But it really is fun.

UPDATE: I made it past level 3, but died in level 4.

A uniquely fun co-op game - action-packed but also facilitates a need for decent teamwork. Bright, bold, engaging cinematic atmosphere.

Unfortunately the game is somewhat inactive, as Payday 2 has swept many players away. Also, the bot teammate AI is really poor - not that you'll be playing bot games, though.

Give this game a chance - it's nothing like Minecraft. You may have a rocky start but this game will turn out to be amazingly addictive. Also, keep the wiki open as you play.

(August 2018 update): It's been five years. I just got back into it, and finished another run of the singleplayer, and it's just as fun as the first time I played. Terraria is a sandboxer that easily stands the test of time.
