This is a rather sad example of Early Access gone wrong.

My friend and I were both rather interested in this game when we first saw the trailers for it, and he wound up paying to two Founders Edition copies of the game. We installed it, played around for a bit, then eagerly awaited the promised additional content.

And waited. And waited some more.

Finally, both of us wound up uninstalling the game to make room for other games that we played far more often, thinking that "Maybe we'll come back to it, once they've had some time to add a bit of polish."

This was a couple a years ago, and nothing has been done. The game has been completely abandoned, which saddens me, because this game held such promise. It's made me a little leary about buying into early access titles since, because of this one major black mark.

Thankfully, some of the other early access titles I've purchased have actually been worth the money I've spend, but I've gotten lucky with those. This will forever remain a massive failure, and there's no way to get the rather expensive Founders Package refunded. Personally, I'm even more ashamed that my name appears on the list of Founders than I am at the massive failings of the Devs.

Jesu, where to begin?

Planetside 2 is simply amazing, long story short.

Pros:
+MASSIVE battles for bases, resources, entire land masses.
+Completely free to play- No need to drop a single cent if you don't want to
+Very fun, fast paced gameplay with insane firefights

Cons:
-Very resource heavy, and if you're not running a well built rig your game will stutter and lag, even on the lowest settings.
-LEARNING CLIFF. No, seriously. CLIFF.
-Can and will cause one or more of the following: Rage quitting, shouting, swearing violently, TEARS OF RAGE, heavy drinking, frequent smoke breaks, soiled pants, increased heart rate, meatsweats, sobbing quietly, anal diamonds, general hatred of everyone not on your side, and a grant fun time.

I got into this game several years ago, I saw a trailer for it and thought it looked interesting, installed it, reviewed the classes and picked my faction, got hot dropped into my first battle, and was so deeply hooked it wasn't funny. Several sleepless nights and a half crate of Monster later, I finally put the game down long enough to take a breather and just go "...♥♥♥♥ ME this game is nuts!"

The scope of the battles is unheard of in any MMO at any given time. Fire fights ranging in the 2-600 person range occur all over the map, with battles lasting HOURS at times while players fight over control of an area. You'll often find yourself in a situation where your screen is filled with tracer rounds flying back and forth and the air is thick with the sounds of explosions, automatic fire, the screams of the wounded and the shouts of the dying. Calls for ammo resupply, medics, and spot calls on enemy players creates a dynamic, confusing atmosphere that does very well in drawing you in to the game and getting your heart pounding. It's frantic, it's fun, and I've had some of the best times of my gaming life playing this game.

However, it does have its downsides. Graphical requirements are indeed intense, without a decent quality rig this game becomes completely unplayable and may cause your system to release all the magic blue smoke with a crackling pop. Though completely free to play, there is the subtle hints to spend money on the game (use SC to get your new gun now! See how much more XP you could be getting with a membership!) and some (very) mild pay to win aspects. As with all games, there are some minor glitches and bugs that can make the game quirky (random game closures and violent sound issues being the only ones that I've personally experienced.)

The initial learning curve is VERY steep (be prepared to have your lives measured in the 6-45 seconds range, at least for the first couple of hours while you get used to things) which may and certainly has caused players to shy away from the game, as there is no ingame tutorial and additional online training is rather limited. Until you get a feel for how the game plays you will be frustrated as a new player.

The game can feel a little grindy at times (Cert farming being the big one) and does occasionally feel very much like a song on repeat, the dynamic, flowing battle lines help keep things fresh (and keep the tears flowing when your squad slips quietly into another zone and completely takes it over while everyone else is busy killing one another)

All in all, I HIGHLY recommend this game, as it is an amazing game and full of insane, heart pounding good fun.

Having only played this game for a rather short amount of time, I have to say I'm rather impressed. The game overall is good. Very good. The level of detail sunk into this game is nothing short of amazing. Combat between yourself and the enemy is smooth and fluid, and the game ramps up smoothly, versus cranking up the level sharply and forcing you to sink or swim. The weapons are surperb and have a believable feel to them.

The only minor nitpick I have is with the rain. I'm all for dynamic weather, bring that ♥♥♥♥ on, but ingame, the rain comes down so heavily at times you can't see more than 6 inches past your visor.
