This is a game I really wish i could write a mixed review score for. I really like a lot of things about it including the PSX style, the enemy design, and the upgrades flowingtogether to make brilliant movement options. But there is a lot that keeps me from wanting to recommend it to others. The game is an open world metroidvania that lacks a map. Often times I wondered where I was supposed to go or what I was supposed to do. This lead me to do the game out of order. You would think this would be a good thing that allows for unique playthroughs, but let me tell you that I was not very happy about it when I was doing it. It forced me to do a lot of things that were way harder than I was comfortable with doing, but I did anyways since I thought it was what was required to do (me being very lost almost the entirety of the game) Think of doing sequence breaking type moments under the thought that it was 100% required to finish the game. (*SPOILERS i did practically all of twilight theater without the wall run.. which was hell. I did not see either of the sliding areas that gets you solar wind or access to tower remains in empty bailey. Pls make that stand out more its so hard to notice when youre looking through a massive world for something relatively tiny and me brain is small*) I did many sequence break type movements and im still not sure which were required and which were not. Overall the game is still pretty hard even without sequence breaking so babby gamers should also be aware. But the other important factor of it being so open immediately is a lot of times i would get an upgrade, and then feel like i have to scour the entire world just to find the few areas that i can now reach with a high jump or whatever upgrade i just got. Honestly a lot of this would be more forgivable with a map, which i ended up resorting to a fan made map around the ~70% mark. But an in game map, with markings of any upgrades in each room, would make the game a lot more tolerable and easier to navigate. A hint system would also be appreciated so future players didnt get completely lost and end up having to sequence break themselves out of being lost. I'm sure there is an intended order for upgrades that the dev laid out, but it feels random to stumble onto that order naturally, making the game a lot more difficult than maybe intended. Again I love the look and feel of the game (even if its a little gray) and I think the developer knocked it out of the park for an indie game and especially if this game is their first major project. I just think comparing this to a more developed metroidvania like the other metroids or hollow knight, the difference is night and day. If the changes are made im happy to swap this to a positive score.

PS (spoilers) ik theres like two bosses in the game but life bars for them would also be appreciated

The game is incredibly frustrating and addicting. Simple to start off with but the later levels and higher difficulties can be pretty hard. The game is very fun though and satisfying when you finish a hard level. Also I love the humor in the game and the multiplayer is pretty great. Not the longest game but definitely a fun experience.
