This game is literally a base designed for more mods. The story the first time around isn't half bad, with the combat taking a back seat to the story and environment. However, past 60 hours, unless you love lore there isn't much for you. Without spoiling much, the main story has a canonical NG+ system that will add some odd variations onto it. The story is still the same, with the chances of major changes being next to nothing.

Now, with new paid mods no one wants, it's clear Bethesda just wants to release the game on a much longer time frame and make us pay more than box price in the multiple mods they add. $10 for a single ship compartment is nuts. Save yourself the money and don't bother.

Arrowhead has lost all trust I had for them. They continue to show that they no longer want their players to have fun; it feels like they're aiming for a Souls-like level of difficulty.

This Escalation of Freedom update was going to add a fire-based warbond. Instead of focusing specifically on this bond, Arrowhead has decided to include some special pre-bond nerfs.

The flamethrower now has recoil, which is the least important nerf as it can be compensated for. However, the flames are now much more focused, forcing you to waste half a tank just to paint a horde with flame. Even worse, they nerfed the damage so hard it takes a whole tank to wipe out 3 warrior bugs and a hive guard. This has turned the flamethrower into a useless weapon for anything above difficulty 4.

Edit: Now that Arrowhead has shown that in addition to poor management of their Discord and community there, they also treat YouTubers the same way, I am going to reiterate; this game is fun, but botched nerfs, technical difficulties, and now poor treatment of fans and their creators makes the environment and longevity of the game toxic and short. Simply put, I cannot safely recommend it for what IS there when it may not be in a few months.

Really great, but only when it works. The base game is ok, but it is fairly small. The mods are where this game shines, it has a massive modding community. If you like working as a team to make a ship run well despite the odds, and being able to customize it to match exactly what you want, this is the game for you.

However, large amounts of mods and playing with friends leads to very unstable gameplay, with several of my friends having repeated issues when trying to join despite following every single troubleshooting guide. It is especially frustrating when all seems fine for half of our campaign and then suddenly they can't join anymore. A lack of a client side crash log makes it nearly impossible to troubleshoot issues without long hours of testing.

Because of the stability issues with mods, and the lack of content in the main game, I cannot recommend this game for $35. Wait for a major sale, and expect it to make you frustrated enough to quit with some of its issues.

I've been a big fan of this game for the longest time because it showed the player real situations that law enforcement face. Brutal, horrible, and haunting situations often based on real life tragedies, done in a way that respects the victims.

Now, they have decided money is more important than respect or art. I deeply regret supporting them, and I am very upset I cannot get a refund since the game is changing in such a fundamental way. VOID has decided, as all successful yet controversial early access devs do, that money is more important than the backers that got them there or preserving the message their games held.

Do not buy this game. Do not support greedy devs who decide money is more important than players.

Gaijin has turned into a greedy company with one goal; drain your wallet. As a completely free to play player, unless you are extremely good, you cannot advance. You will lose the free currency used for everything, including repairing your vehicles, and make little progress with research. A premium vehicle, purchased with money, is a necessity now. The events are flat out impossible for anyone with a job or school, as it requires a ridiculous amount of time to grind through it to get average rewards. This company has pushed and pushed to fleece it's player base of money, and it's only now that we have seen the lengths they'll go to earn your extra buck. Do not play this game until Gaijin fixes the economy; it's not worth it otherwise.
