came back to this game unironically a literal decade after buying it and still didn't ♥♥♥♥ with it and have no idea what's going on

most if not the majority of negative reviews are crying over the paradox launcher. it's seriously not that big of a deal.

Played this exclusively on my Steam Deck, and it stuck with me enough to make me want to actually write a review of it.

I don’t want to spoil very much as I feel like this is truly a game you should experience for yourself, but I cannot recommend it enough; especially if you enjoy games with a heavy emphasis on narrative and decision making. Your choices truly matter and will either come to benefit you, or bite you in the ass hours later, and I appreciate it so very much for what it is. Not to mention the extremely compelling world that the developers have crafted around you, the player.

As of this review, I have only finished one “run” of the game, and it ended a little short because of some poor decision making lol. Made me immediately want to jump back in and start anew, as there genuinely are so many different things that could happen/that you can experience throughout the course of the game. Very excited to play again, and could not recommend enough.

my tiny brain allowed me to learn this game a little easier than dwarf fortress;
in my first game I was able to play competently my player character had 5 daughters by the time he was an old ♥♥♥♥ banging 25 year olds and still had 0 sons. first son is finally born and within a year dies of incredible sickness. promptly given the option to blackmail my father in law for being gay. all is well.

my tiny brain hasn't wrapped around how to play this correctly yet so until then I'll enjoy generating worlds over and over again and reading their lore

I was really disappointed with this game on launch. As someone who's put countless hours into the franchise on console, and a good amount on PC (mainly on Origin) as well, this game on release sort of felt like a slap in the face from DICE and I decided not to play it despite my initial excitement. Come late January 2023, a decent bit into the games life, I came across a video by jackfrags that made the game seem... interesting, actually. For the first time since launch, I was actually interested, and in turn, downloaded the game right after.

I was pretty surprised by how quickly I loaded into a game of conquest and got right into playing almost 4 minutes after install. The game felt alive, smooth, and as hectic as battlefield always is and should be. I think they're on the right road here to making the game good, but I do think the game should have been like this on release.
