I've really enjoyed what I've been able to play so far, but the game has crashed 8 times in 30 minutes.

Edit: 12 times

People keep saying my PC is a potato.

4070ti (on par with / sometimes out performs 5070) + i7 13700k

Black Myth Wukong and Arc Raiders (both UE5 games) get over 120+ FPS without frame gen on this system, whereas High on Life 2 gets around that or less with frame gen.

This is, objectively and not my opinion, the sign of an unoptimized game with clear performance issues.

Digital Foundry was getting stutters on a 5090, which is the best card money can buy.

Crashes are profoundly common, in such a way that doesn't seem to care about how good your hardware is.

This is not a hardware issue. It's an issue with the game itself.

The irony of the intentionally excessive profanity seems to be lost on the people leaving negative reviews.

Pokemon was overly childish and hand-holdy, and after years of being repetitively exposed to that, the polar opposite is cathartic. The developer went for the complete inverse of that dialogue, and it was brilliant and obviously intentional. There are even references to the self awareness within the game if you talk to certain NPCS.

If you started with Pokemon Yellow / Red / Blue or even Silver / Gold you will appreciate this love letter to that era of gaming. The similarities and references from the moment you're given the fishing rod at the beginning of the game makes it impossible to avoid smiling.

Gameplay mechanics and story are both S tier for a game like this. I'm not sure what people were expecting, but this has far exceeded what I've assumed the game would be like after watching the trailers.

For those considering the Digital Deluxe or pre-order bonus for the armor and weapon skins, they've locked them behind NG+. You don't even have access to the cosmetics until you've completed the entire game. They're just glorified dust collectors in your inventory.

Apparently changing the appearance of your armor and weapon in your initial adventure sounded like too much fun to the developers, so you must finish the entire 50+ hour game before unlocking the ability to change your character appearance.

Why?

Trying to wrap my head around their thought process almost causes vertigo. This might be the most indefensible and confusing design choice I've seen for any game of this genre.

Just let me use the cosmetics that I've paid for, and for pre-ordering the game. It's not complicated.

I bought this because people on Reddit told me not to.

My main issue with this game is the fact there's no substance or reason to do anything being shown in the gameplay videos.

There's no story, goal to work towards, enemy encounters, or inspiration to explore. This is the perfect foundation for an incredible game, but to me it remains simply a foundation.

The negative reviews are literally just people admitting they're bad at the game, and that's their entire reason behind leaving a negative review, which is absurd to me.

I'm getting completely destroyed as well, so they have a point, but that has nothing to do with the game itself.

This is easily the best netcode for an online fighter I've played in years, and you can actually play at fps higher than 60.

You're not going to be disappointed if you're a fan of smash or even brawlhalla. This combines the best elements of both games.

I didn't spend $2500 on a gaming PC and 360hz monitor to play a game hard capped at 60 fps in 2024.

Early Access Review
They completely abandoned everything that caused Hades to be an incredible game, which was snappy and responsive gameplay. The fact each character had interesting dialogue supplemented the gameplay, but should never be a replacement for it.

Dashing just feels bad, because there is an objective input delay between each one. This really boils down to whether or not your reaction time is fast enough to notice this, and not whether or not it affects you. This is a glaring issue with the game, and I'm frightened by the idea any developer would be incompetent enough to consider this an intentional design choice.

When they patch the dash and overall clunky movement that juxtaposes this game from the original, once again taking away the very essence of what made Hades originally a master class on action combat, then I'll consider purchasing the game again, but for now it's a refund.
