A small taste of Life Is Strange 2.

Story:

You play as Chris. He's a young boy living with his widowed alcoholic dad. As escapism from the harsh reality Chris comes up with an alter ego in superhero Captain Spirit and now you spend your Saturday doing super heroic deeds.

One thing I should tell you right now is don't expect a really heavy plot for this game as this serves as a very small slice of what's to come in Life Is Strange 2. For what it's worth I found the writing endearing and pretty depressing at times, although it does have that familiar LIS cheese. The only problem with this is it doesn't really give me a clear idea of what to even expect from LIS 2 and is more or less feels like a standalone game.

Graphics:

The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit does look like a massive upgrade over the first two LIS games, with the environments not having this weird blurry look to them and there's seemingly a lot more detail in the places you visit with items being thrown around everywhere, so if you like to look around this game will definitely please you.

However something pretty bad from LIS is making a comeback and that is the really horrendous facial animations. The faces and character models are much more refined, but when characters speak, it feels like they open their mouth and all the words just leave their mouth basically at the same time.

Audio:

The audio design is top notch, but that's to be expected. Voice acting seems to be even better quality than LIS (which I liked, but it did get awkward at times) with characters sounding more believable and when their emotions come through it does sound incredibly believable.

Music choices are also on par with what I anticipated. It has a nice little indie soundtrack which was a pleasure in Life Is Strange and is back (even though on a smaller scale) here, so that's a plus. Sound effects are also decent and do their part very well.

Gameplay:

The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit plays pretty much exactly like Life is Strange, but minus one of the biggest things which is no choice making. The basic gameplay of walking around, looking at items is back and the basic goal of the game is to go around and play with your stuff until your Dads basketball game finishes.

I will just come out and say it, that most of the stuff you have to do in this game are just flat out tedious and not fun whatsoever. Most of the goals entail you to find a certain item that is hidden away some around the house or outside and bringing it to another location with some minor puzzling solving ( one puzzle which is pretty much identical to the one used in Before The Storm), so it's not really that deep all while you're waiting for that particular moment.

There is a few cool easter eggs you can find while looking around the house which has throwbacks to the earlier games, but that's about it. You can also finish the entire game without actually doing any of the goals (albeit I think a few of them will help you pass the time). I was actually surprised because I had the option to end the game without even having completed half of the goals.

Verdict:

If you liked the previous two Life Is Strange games, this teaser for 2 will definitely satisfy your hunger while you're either waiting to buy the game or a nice appetizer before you dig into the main course and it helps that it's free. However as a prologue to LIS 2 it feels rather disappointing since it doesn't really give me a clear idea what to expect, but overall I still had a good time.

Final Rating:
7.5/10

Pros:
+ Charming presentation
+ Decent writing
+ Graphics had a massive upgrade...

Cons:
- ...But facial animations definitely didn't
- Some of the tasks are just simply not fun

Early Access Review
At first the game was completely free, but then it turned into a demo. After purchasing the full version, nothing has changed. Complete disappointment.

To make a this short and straight to the point, I just can not recommend the game to ANYONE that values their own real life time, I honestly can't ( and don't want to ) understand how the developers need to force EXTREME amounts of grind to even be able to go about your play time to earn sub-par mediocre in game cash ( Silver )

There are INSANE amounts of hurdles to overcome and even as a returning player I literally can't even understand the direction of the game.

At first going into it, with all the trailers and pictures of the best aspect of the game ( Combat ) you'd figure that would be Black Desert Onlines' focus but it isn't though. There will be a decent amount of that, do not get confused. However I can almost guarantee- that your time will be more focused on Life skills and back tracking different NPCS to raise either Contribution Points and or Energy Points- Which both are used to help expand your node empire and gather materials respectively ( Which i'll come back to these ).

The first week back on the seasonal servers made the game feel SO much better, considering they are actually rewarding you for playing, rather than what it was was a couple years ago. If you're smart with your money, rewards and enhancement supplies, ETC and save until you hit 61 ( like I did ) The game can be quite easy for for like an extra week until you start doing your research more and more and realizing how much money you have to dump in to guarantee a sustainable return ( I.E life Skilling materials, gear, ETC... )

This stuff isn't new I get that, all MMOS pretty much follow the same format to keep players attention, but see the thing about Black Desert Online is that it's core model is almost that of a Mobile game sadly ( And they actually already have a mobile game...)

I saved this part for last because all things considered it's super important to note -

THIS GAME IS PAY FOR CONVENIENCE, NOT REALLY PAY TO WIN

Most of you will think that's still scummy and honestly, I do too, But the thing is with the LARGE amount of rewards they've been giving players that last couple months and then rewards just to transfer your account to their own Pearl Abyss servers, I don't really care that much anymore because they've shown their not that bad as EA.

But HUGE disclaimer- There are SO many conveniences within the Premium shop that there are legitimate guides on Youtube on what to buy with-in the shop- If THAT doesn't say something, I swear I don't know gaming anymore.

And remember the Energy Points I was talking about earlier? This concept is literally ripped from mobile games and inserted onto your PC ( but worse ) First off talking in either Server or World chats will consume 1 energy for each time you send a message out there. Regardless of it's just a " Hi " Or entire an paragraph. I am going to be selfish here and not even consider a rebuttal or an argument towards defending this- This is just ignorant and stupid, no matter how you put it, World of Warcraft doesn't even limit it's chat like this, and they arguably have thee WORST chat community of any MMO I've ever played.

Gathering and just talking to NPCs drain energy at an alarming rate- limiting what you can do with-in your time you set aside to play the game- It's dumb.

More conveniences come from a tent you can buy for about 50$ that will enable more portable storage and exp boosts.

More conveniences come from Cooking / Gathering / Fishing / Alchemy outfits that can only be bought for about 20 bucks each that offer VERY VERY VERY sufficient bonuses towards life skilling.

More conveniences come from Fairy and butlers that let you access storage and marketplace from far away from regions, Fairies can auto potion ( Can't even express how wrong this is )

That's not even 0.66% of the games Pay for convenience options.

There are so many Cons overlooking this game, and that is before we even talk about the RNG, which i'm not even going too, because that in it self is like a whole manual to write and is a botched system plus there a about a million videos discussing the controversy behind it.

BUT as a closing the game looks amazing and runs smooth, fluid combat and the story isn't half bad. Unfortunately the game will ALWAYS fall flat in terms of reaching a broader audience because of the over seas influence of grind and Pay for convenience ideals.

Play at your own risk!

It is important to tell upfront that this is not a game in the common sense of the word, there is no real gameplay here. This is an interactive story, so people not interested in that can walk along.

The whole game takes place in a cabin lost in the woods, where you unfold the plot by exploring objects and opening furniture. The main character is deftly voiced, his emotions are convincingly genuine. There is no jump scares, loud sounds, and so on, the fear comes from the well crafted story and presentation. The game world might be small, but each items hold lots of memories, and as the plot advances, you see them in completely different lights.

The length of the game is perfect (roughly 1h30) for what it aims to achieve, and the pace consistantly ramps up in tension. The writing is descriptive, metaphoric and subjective. The emotional side is highly nuanced, and despite the length, you will feel conflicted several times concerning the characters and the situation it presents.

In short: a free game with the quality content you expect from a commercial product. Be aware this is a condensed experience focused solely on storytelling.

It's entertaining and charming, but you'll end up wiith too many items for too many rooms and too many hotspots way too soon.

First off, do not buy this if you intend to see the funny moments and gruesome humor that was POSTAL 2. The humor in here is minimal and not nearly as frequent as even just standing still on P2.
This game is VERY serious and dark, but in a good way. For 1997, it was pretty realistic as well.
It was made from 95 percent brutality and shock factor and 5 percent humor.

ATMOSPHERE:
This game is very dark in contrast to the sequel, the art is grimy looking, you really get a feel that the guy you're playing as is VERY psychotic (mainly from the daily Journal entries on the loading screen before each level) partially from one of the few spoken lines of the Postal Dude; "I regret nothing." before shooting himself in the head (after killing hundreds of innocents!!!)
***NOTE: There is a suicide key (K) which acts as a way to restart the level.***
This is one of those games that was highly controversial. One of the reasons was how it executed its "violence" within the game. Reason being; it was as realistic as the dev team could make it for the time. Adding on to that, children can also be killed, and executed while incapacitated.

Pros:
+ The gameplay is amazing fun (isometric shoot em up, with some decent strategy needed)
+ Has the 'Special Deliery' add-on included which adds 5 new levels
+ Lots of features for a game that's simple and from 1997
+ Very unique and nice hand-drawn art style
+ Gives an unsettling, horror vibe (see below for details)
+ Quite a nice arsenal of weapons for an old mass-murder game, all weapons feel different and some explosive weapons have varieties of ammunition

Cons:
- Controls may be hard to get used to for some players
- Not quite a straight-forward, linear story, but the Postal Dude's inner-thoughts are expressed clearly through the Journal entries (loading screens), and throughout the game he mutters lines, as well the last level shows just how mentally unstable he is (it is a cutscene)

The game truly takes you on a trip through the mind of a mentally ill man who feels the need to purge the world of every living human. It might shock some, sure, but it really is an amazing game for how simple it is, yet allows you to have so much fun killing time AND people. The story may not be heavy in terms of spoken dialogue and many pages worth of text, but there is an underlying surreal feeling while playing the game that makes it clear that the story is just how psychotic the "Postal Dude" has become.

You can easily get used the controls, create your own cozy setup, master the controls in 10 minutes, and have a BLAST playing this. Disregard my Steam playtime as I have played at least 30+ hours before the Steam release.
