Whilst FM26 does improve on many things from FM24, like the graphics and tactics, there are far too many things that point to this game just being a testing bed for future FMs. If you are playing any of the past FMs currently, I would suggest just sticking to those for this year if you are unsure about spending the money.

FM26 is a buggy mess and the UI is so clearly unfinished. I think it is clear that this game has been released because they could not have another delayed/non-release. They have clearly tried to make the game more accessible, but by doing so have taken away so much of the detail that was present in FM24. There doesn't seem to be any logic used in the navigation of the menus or the screens that they present, information is not sized correctly, the cards and tiles style just seems an after thought and it often takes 2 or 3 more clicks to get to a screen you could get to in one click in FM24. It is clear the team is in desperate need for an experienced UX/UI designer.

Whilst I can see there are some improvements to the match engine, I think they have also taken some steps back here. It seems any team with a competent winger can just dribble past entire teams, regardless how you or they have setup, it does match every match kind of feel the same.

All in all, I saw in a Reddit post stating that FM26 is just the FM27 beta, and it honestly feels exactly like that. I think it is worrying that this is the state of FM26 after a cancelled FM25.

Early Access Review
Those who played the Auto Chess mod and enjoyed it will enjoy this game. The UI has been improved by a great deal and works well on both PC and mobile. The cross compatibility is seem less and lets you transfer from PC to mobile whenever you like. The way the items work has been changed for the better in my opinion. The new system is a lot less RNG based and in my opinions adds more strategy elements. The lack of customisation is one big negative though, the game does sometimes feel empty. However, I do believe that this is a good successor to the Auto Chess mod.

This is brilliant, to begin with, I was pretty unsure how the turn base would work, being a RTS player for a long time. But, I have to say, the turn base is very smooth and quick when playing against AI or Humans. This game has so much depth, it has Civilizations and Tech I had never heard of before and it has amazing replayability. I have only put in 42hrs so far, so playing online can be a bit intimidating, but the experience is amazing, the feeling you get when you discover Gunpower and then an enemy rocks up to your city with tanks and Nukes is amazing and makes you want to become a better player. 10/10 would recommend.
