This game is unique in a way that it has few styled games within. It has shoot 'em up, side-scroller, top-down and some.
All this blends well and doesn't feel forced as it gives a fresh air to the gave a fresh air to game industry.
Combat can be as hard as you want it to be because the chip system can help you customize your style and even lowest difficulty can do battles for you with "Auto Mode".
The game soon will be a decade old and yet I haven't found anything form big studios that would be close with creativity and storytelling. I genuinely believe that this game changed people to be a better person.

My only problem with this game is that it's much better with controller than with mouse and keyboard. Some controls are little bit wonky especially with SHMUP that is at the beginning of the game.

Looks good for a game, but it's not a photo-sim.
For people that can't afford the time, money or are disable to go that places it might be it. The game portion might be done well, recreate certain photo and find some stuff on the map to unlock more tools and maps, but I didn't got this game for that. I wanted to do actual photography there and to see some places that I've been before.

Sadly on the first map I had a major problem with lighting. The bloom effect was so strong on rocks and snow that it was straining my eyes despite sky being completely covered and the shadows were too dark and not matching what I would expect to see with my eyes.
At Fushimi Inari Shrine the textures were obviously in wrong places fighting for attention with sudden geometrical change, sharp edges on 3D objects not being smoothed at river's retaining walls, manhole was from "van city" and I doubt it's even from Japan. All these might sound like nitpicks but since it advertised as foto-sim the details are important and no amount of graphical tweaking helps with textures or geometry, it's a design flaw.

The photography part is just done okay'ish if you are new to photography since it may teach you something about finding subject but I would rather just go to art gallery for that or just talk with a hobby photographer of any kind.
I cannot take pictures that I would be doing because game lacks detail where I would be interested in taking them and all photos are still and lacking dynamism for me. Even after looking at what others did it's very narrow in the genre of photography that you can do in my opinion.

As a walking-sim game it's a good game with nice looks, but as photo-sim I wouldn't recommend it.

If you want to buy this game for 12-16y/o then do it but if you are looking for anything with any depth then just skip it.

For their asking price I would not recommend it since the game can be beaten in 4~6 and there is no replay value to it.
Get it on sale if you really want to play it.

The story is shallow and very simple and haven't done anything that haven't been done before.
Main protagonist could be replaced by anything. Cat could be replaced with a rock and it wouldn't change anything.
Cat in this game is probably the reason why it has "Overwhelmingly Positive" reviews remove that and it would be "Mixed".
Also the Cyberpunk is almost non-existent you could say that it's normal day when there is a real threat from outside so it's not a dystopia.
It's impossible to empathize with the characters in this since you barely get to know them; and I couldn't care less about main sidekick and his story despite seeing that writers wanted the player to empathize with it.
Nods to philosophy in this game is just a gesture. You will learn nothing about these topics nor will the game elaborate.
Gameplay itself is simple and linear and it's okay since it's rated as PEGI-12 so don't expect anything harder then what 12y/o would figure out.

I might be stupid and there might be a deep hidden lore somewhere but unless VaatiVidya's gonna do a 10 hour video on it I'll criticize bad writing. I would accept this story if I knew that some kid wrote it.

To add a cherry on top there is still a softlocking bug that have been in game since lunch and unfortunately I stumbled upon it.

TLDR:
-If you crazily love cats: get it!
-And if you want to play it for any other reason: don't waste your money.

Early Access Review
Just buy something else

First impression of the game is fun but it get laborious in all the wrong ways.
The laborious part of a factory game would be okay if the blueprints could work on a sphere comprised of squares.
Thanks to the building system the building part gets annoying whenever you get close to tropic lines making it wonky or impossible to build.

Also some in-game research options were put by devs for no other reason than wasting your time. Mech movement speed upgrade makes game bearable but I believe that the movement should be boosted from the start and not locked.
The research-tree of technology is not well thought out, for someone without prior knowledge of the game, you may unlock something that is useless until some other unlock. Streamlined tree with few branches would be much better.

Language barrier is a slight problem. Most text in game could be understood but some explanations are just esoteric or just good-old Engrish.

Lastly game pulls information about your game that is pointless since there is no multiplayer, it's just for some imaginary leader board. I'm not a fan of collecting any user-data and especially when it's Communist China.

I've played this game for some time in 2016, 2018 and 2020.
In total I've logged in 73 times but this game can't make me stay for longer than few a weeks at a time.
when I started in 2016 it was fun but I got frustrated because I didn't knew how leveling works and how to get cool stuff because tutorial was nonexistent beside how to move and how to shoot.
In 2018 I watched some tutorials online and figured out what should I do and grinded for a while until I had to update it and my bandwidth was crap so I gave up on this game.
And now in 2020 I downloaded it once again and the game changed from "work as a team" into "online solo player" because game doesn't requires you to have any defense as long you can one tap the enemy. In a way you are the one carrying your team and killing everything or you are a leech that just wants to level up and get some loot.

Something that I would call a core of the game is grind and it's not really good because there are items that you have a CHANCE of getting in a special quest that resets every 24hrs so you can't raid the same mission for 8 hrs and get the rare loot you wanted. So it's easier to trade with other players for premium currency and buy it with platinum in official store or from other player.
I don't really care about enemies being dumb and easy to kill as long as they come in a hordes and it feels good in PvE game.
This game has very few mission types and all of them fall into one of two categories: "kill every enemy and evacuate" or "go to point A, press (use key) and evacuate".
Base lore quests are the same missions but with dialogue as a background and for me that makes them a chore rather than enjoyable experience because dialogue has to end so you know where to run next.
And the side lore that you can read somewhere in a pokedex? I don't care about that if the lore that is presented to me as a base I don't want to dig through tons of text to MAYBE get something worth wile.

I never recommend this game to anyone, because it has nothing to do. The only thing that it has is parkour mechanics and it's only defining feature. If you like grind play Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow and do 100% run, if you like killing hordes play any Tower Defense or maybe you want movement-shooter then play Quake Live.
For short time Warframe may be fun but the game doesn't have any meaning full leaderboard or any incentive to play other than being addicted because you've invested some time into this.

"The game is fun. The game is a battle. If it's not fun, why bother? If it's not a battle, where's the fun?" - Reggie Fils-Aimé

Simple mechanics and repetitive.
Entertaining for first few minutes and for the price it's good experience.
Moreover if you are a achievement-♥♥♥♥♥ like me you'll be happy for free achievements. There are also cards that can in some amount refund initial cost.

With the latest update the app got worse and the dev is refusing to listen to people opinion on that.
He closes the Steam forum threads with no response or links to steam guide without elaborating.
The dev used to ban people on the forum when people started complaining about advertisements that he embedded in to the app and it's happening again.
The legacy version used far fewer resources around 35MB of RAM, while new version uses 140MB of RAM and 56MB of GPU memory. Moreover the new version is constantly using your CPU wasting the cycles where the legacy version was doing a script and nothing more after.

The update is more like a beta version since it crashes itself or the other program when used as instructed.
It would be fine if we could install previous version via steam but sadly there is no way to get it.
