Multiversus is the most competent and well-designed free to play smash-like fighter on the market right now. There is a reason why at launch, it already has the highest player base out of any fighting game ever made. Many people, like myself have always wanted to play a game like smash brothers, but did not have the nintendo hardware necessary to play it. The only two alternatives PC players had that I can think of are Brawlhala and the Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. Brawlhala is also free to play and lots of fun, but is a lot more simple as its budget was much smaller than Multiversus. The Nickelodeon game had a higher budget, however it was and still is far overpriced in my opinion. If it was free to play, it would be a genuine competitor to Multiversus. But, enough about those games.

Multiversus contains a diverse and fun cast of characters from several WB titles (and the NBA lol), new and old with promised free updates along the way. There is a character for everyone, all of which can be unlocked for free just by playing the game. The gameplay is fast and responsive, and it is very easy to get into an online match. The rollback netcode makes the matches play out very smoothly with little to no issues. In terms of gamemodes, the star of the show is the online 2v2 mode. There is something so fun and addicting about joining up with a friend and teaming up as Batman and Arya Stark to beat the crap out of Steven Universe and Finn the Human. The voice acting and animations are charming and goofy, and it's hard not to smile when playing with friends. The game is just as fun solo, and the 1v1 matches are tense, fun, and rewarding.

If you are looking for cons, there are only a few things I can think of that need to be improved. One is the number of stages. Even though there are a decent number of characters in the game, there are only a handful of stages to play on. I often find myself playing multiple games consecutively on the same stage. This will be fixed with time, however, as the devs have promised to add more free content with each update. A new Rick and Morty themed stage was just added before writing this review, with many more on the way. Another con is this game's approach to microtransactions. On the bright side, every microtransaction in this game is purely cosmetic. There is not pay-to-win aspect of this game at all. However, the problem I have is the pricing. I think items in this game that use the paid currency are pretty overpriced and they aren't really interesting enough for me to see myself spending any more money on this game. For example, Batman has a paid skin that makes him look like his depiction from Batman: the Animated Series. The only problem is that his default costume already looks a lot like the Animated Series costume, so it's not really worth spending real money on.

Overall, everything about this game makes me smile. Its a joy to look at and a joy to play. AND ITS FREE so there's no reason not to try it. 9/10

RDR2 remains the single best story experience in gaming. I think everyone should play this game at least once.
