Wonderful and deep story fleshed out and well-executed characters and phenomenal gameplay. The difficulty is well set and you can always adjust it after your first clear. Highly enjoyable!

It looks quite promising so far and if you like CrossCode it seems to be a game for you was well. The only concern I have are the characters. In the demo they seemed a bit on the flat side. I hope this will be resolved in the full release, but other than that I look forward to it

Review edited to account for the latest patches

I have now finished the game with 100% completion. Silksong is a great game and deserves to be played, ESPECIALLY for just 20 bucks. For those, who want a more complete picture, here are my thoughts:

Pros
  • The story is very good and catches your attention. You really wonder what happens to this kingdom
  • The characters are designed very clearly and you would be able to guess who is who by their dialogue alone
  • The soundtracks are really good, especially for ambient music. You will easily forget that there even is music playing until you hit the moments where the music stops
  • The art style is like in Hollow Knight, but feels more refined. You get too see a lot of details in the world
  • I like the combat a lot. It is challenging, but you also have a lot of options for your movement. If you have played Hollow Knight before, the pogo is still there
  • Movement in this game is really good. It's fun and you can recall a lot of it from Hornets movement in Hollow Knight
  • Being able to bundle rosaries(the main currency of the game) into rosary strings is actually quite a clever system in my opinion. While you lose some rosaries by bundling them, you get to keep them in the case you die and are unable to get to your cocoon. A fair trade-off for that safety
  • You can actually heal mid-air now, which is really nice quality of life and gives you more windows to sneak in a heal
  • The map is very diverse in its design and each area really feels distinct. And there are a lot of secrets, so exploring is worthwhile
  • HOLY, is there a lot of map to explore
  • If you have played Hollow Knight before, you will find a lot of easter eggs, but it is not required
But there are also some aspects that may bug you off and make this game an acquired taste.
Cons
  • Enemies are relatively tanky. Especially bigger ones will typically take you 4-8 hits to finish off. Be ready for longer fights
  • While you do get the mid-air heal you will also always heal 3 masks and you need quite a bit of time. And if you get hit even once, all your silk is gone. Is is very punishing
  • If you want to play the game in Simplified Chinese, it seems that the translations are quite lacking. This seems to be the biggest complaint in reviews in that language and explains the very low score

And regarding the fact that many other indie titles delayed their launch to not compete with Silksong:
This would have happened, regardless of when Team Cherry did the announcement and the release. The hype around this game was just too big and it was on the radar of indie devs for a long time now.

Conclusion
I love Hollow Knight. It is one of my all-time favorites. I love the exploration, the combat, the lore and how you gather it. It is a fantastic game. And Silksong is no different. While it may take veterans some time to adjust to different movement options, it provides really good movement. And I don't think any of the Cons can outweigh the Pros of this game. It may not be for everyone. and that is OK. But if you like exploration, good platforming and challenging combat Silksong hits in all aspects. If it GotY for me? Unfortunately(not really), Expedition 33 exists. But it's a close second place. And for just 20 bucks, this is unbeatable value.

This game is my personal game of the decade. I absolutely love the story, the characters, the world, the music and the fights. It feels so good to have a classic turn-based combat, mixed with souls-like elements in the form of parry and dodge. And no matter how much of a challenge you set yourself, if any at all, you can do it! The game is really fair in this regard.

It is a piece of art and love. You notice this on every level and it is beautiful to see not only the devs, but also the publisher working so well together to make this masterpiece a reality. I hope we can get more of that.

I have already played through the original version of Dragon Quest XI and at first it looked like a nice polish. However, around the middle of the story in the definitive edition you get a series of mini stories. The problem with them is that they center around characters whose fate at this point was unknown in the original. This was an important part of the story and these mini stories spoil a lot this way. If they were just optional and accessible through the main menu, for example, I would have no reason to complain but you have to play through them to advance in the main story. It is really unfortunate that you can not buy the original anymore because I would definitely recommend it instead of this version

Within 2 weeks I played through the entire game, collecting every single achievement. It's really that good. Especially the soundtracks are god-tier. Combat is fun and allows for a lot of skill expression, exploring is challenging and rewarding and I love the story. If you like Hollow Knight you will like ENDER LILIES as well!

One of the best games to just relax. Play it at your own pace and if the immense amount of content in the game isn't enough it also has quite the healthy modding ecosystem.
