This is, for better or worse, a proper sequal to X3. If you already love the classic X games then it will not take much effort to fall in love with X4. If this is your first X game (or you are looking for some modernized roguelike space sim) you will likely give up after 5 minutes.

One thing worth noting... the X games are never very well optimized (X4 is no exception) and they could compete with Bethesda titles for bugginess... if you have a mid to low-end system and/or you have no patience with a very buggy semi-aimless sandbox experience you will probably have a bad time.
