I'm not far in yet but the guys behind this game are pros, both Labyrinth of Touhou 1 and 2 are incredible games that will push what the dungeon crawling genre can do for you.

One different thing I've noticed is that you have a bunch of skill points from the get-go which makes everyone start out with a possible well-delineated role, easing out possible early game pain points with the difficulty. Your opinion may vary on whether this is good or not (I'm certainly ambivalent), but at the very least they offer an alternative to starting out with 0 points that feels good to play from the start.

It's too early to tell, I'll come back and tell you guys if it's GOTY.

If you know what's up then you don't need to read this, but if you don't, this game (which is actually four entries compiled together) dog walks every single modern Super Robot Wars game and it's not even particularly close. There are people that have been waiting for a way to play this entire series fully translated for over 15 years, so in the case of a filthy gaijin such as myself that's reason enough to purchase this and support the developers.

This might not sound like a big deal to some of you, but a big chunk of the reason this version is translated fully is because they used the fan translations for the first three games as a base, so shotouts to everyone involved for keeping it real.

P.S.: A lot of mechanical changes were introduced compared to the original releases. The biggest two I've seen so far are the fact that your units start out with some extra (fairly powerful) skills, which means everyone can contribute much faster once they join. The second big change is the addition of innate MP and SP recovery for every character every single turn. While these things definitely make the game a lot easier than the original releases, I don't mind too much because the game so far seems to be balanced around these things and the original games weren't very fair in the harder difficulties anyway. Besides, everyone plays SRW by getting SP Regen on all their pilots so I can actually kind of appreciate them cutting the chase and just giving it to everyone for free.

The one thing I miss is the resource management aspect of SP conservation in stages, but overall and with all the upgrades in terms of QoL/player-facing information, the game does feel a ton better to play now.
