i'm happy for y'all that this runs for, but it's completely unplayably laggy for me across three different machines, all of which ran games with better graphics at higher settings

You know what? This game is on sale frequently for cheap.
Right now it's one cent more than a quarter.

Know what else is a quarter?
A ♥♥♥♥♥♥ gumball at the mall.

It's worth it, even if you think you'll dislike it. It'll probably keep you more entertained than the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ gum, anyway.

I love this game so, so much. This is probably one of my Top 20 games, ever.

I love Castlevania, I love procedurally generated games, and I love roguelikes. This game is a fantastic mashing-together of all three. I really don't feel that they could have integrated these three genres any better.

The character progression and growth feels amazing. I suppose it's technically possible to beat the end boss on your first non-tutorial life, but it feels exactly as horrible and impossble a task as it should, with no powers, wealth, or weapons to help you out. As you get the hang of the game and learn its secrets, you unlock more and more powers to pass on to future generations, and eventually manage to barely scrape past bosses you've been pouring incredible amounts of time into. It's refreshing for a modern game to demand this much of you, and it's a lot of fun to take the challenge.

Protip: If you buy this, it's playable and fun without a controller, but it's so much better with one. The controls really feel natural on a controller, which is something that I feel is pretty rare. The characters' movements feel tight, but also really fluid, which is something I've really only experienced previously with Super Meat Boy.

At the time I'm recommending this, the game's on sale for less than $5. This game is worth so much more than that. It felt like a steal for $15. If there's ever any DLC for this, I'm impulse-buying it.

Buy this game. You won't regret it.
