I saw a streamer play this and it had me intrigued. I picked it up, got hooked and played the entire game in one evening. 10/10

In Chants of Sennaar, you awake at the base of a tower with no knowledge of the world you are in. You have to decipher the languages of the people around you, only using the context of the environment around you. The experience is incredibly immersive and really satisfying, and I had a lot of fun completing this.
Let me split up the review into what I liked and disliked to give you more of an idea if you would like this game

The good
  • The game is, simply put, beautiful. The graphics and lightning look really good, and the soundtrack really adds to the feeling of a world you know nothing about.
  • The puzzles, consisting of deciphering languages, are just difficult enough in my opinion; not too difficult so that they are frustrating, but not too easy so that it's a breeze. The way you interact with the environment to solve these puzzles is really rewarding and gave me plenty of "eureka" moments when I was able to tie unknown spoken words to elements in the world.
  • The languages and symbols are really well designed; for example, different verbs will contain the same structures so that even if you have no idea of what is being said to you, you are able to deduce which parts of a sentence are nouns, verbs, locations, actions, etc. This is in no way needed to solve all puzzles, but it adds yet more depth to the experience when you pay attention to it.
  • The actions of the people in the world will change as you proceed throughout the game; it is absolutely worth it to walk through the entire game at the end to see all of the things that have changed.
  • Without spoiling too much, I found the way the ending ties all your work together to be really beautiful

The meh
  • There are some stealth elements that don't work super well and that I found sometimes to be more frustrating than challenging. This is mitigated by very frequent savepoints but still annoying at times.
  • At 20€, the game is a bit expensive for the time it takes to complete and due to the deciphering nature of the puzzle there is (quite obviously) no replayability. However I still had lots of fun and in no way do I feel like I wasted my money.

Overall, the experience was amazing and if you want to sink some brainpower into puzzle solving, I highly reccomend this game.

Such a great game. Buy it, but beware that many users get performance problems. I didn't though
