Gusletmek, yani boy abdesti almak isteyen bir kişi önce besmele okur ve : "Niyet ettim Allah rızası için gusül abdesti almaya" diye niyet eder. Elleri bileklere kadar yıkadıktan sonra edep yerlerini temizler. Bundan sonra sağ avucuyla ağzına üç kere su alır ve her defasında ağzını boğazına kadar gargara şeklinde çalkalar. Oruçlu ise boğazına su kaçmamasına dikkat eder. Sağ avucuyla burnuna, genzine kadar üç defa su çeker, her defasında sol eliyle burnunu temizler. Bundan sonra tıpkı namaz abdesti gibi abdest alır.

Abdest aldıktan sonra önce başına, sonra sağ, daha sonra da sol omuza üçer defa su döker ve vücudunu yıkar. Suyu her döküşte elleriyle vücudunu iyice ovuşturur. İğne ucu kadar kuru yer kalmaksızın vücudun her tarafını güzelce yıkar. Gusülde bıyık, saç ve sakal diplerine suyun iyice işlemesi için ovuşturulur. Göbek boşluğu, küpe delikleri dikkat edilerek yıkanır. Böylece gusül abdesti almış oluruz.
