Peans. Not quite peas, not quite beans, but something special in betweens.

I was quite excited to try this out after following the Titanic HG guys for a while, I think what they're doing and what they've managed to achieve is incredible and I'm glad I'm now able to purchase something to throw them a little cash. To start with the attention to detail is just breathtaking, I mean second to none, they've really captured the feel of what I can only imagine it must have been like to be on an Olympic class liner. Having to use the menu to select different parts of the ship was a bit of a surprise after the Titanic demo from a couple of years back but not something that massively bothers me, and it's brilliant to finally be able to explore the ship's exterior.

That said, the experience does desperately need some tweaking and QOL improvements. I'm playing using a Rift CV1 and found the general performance and visuals to be lacking somewhat. I get major aliasing and shimmering which I know is partially due to the limitations of the VR hardware but I still feel it's worse than it should be, as well as surprisingly poor performance even on a Ryzen 3700X, RTX2070 and 16gb RAM. The VR menus are utterly awful too.

I think for me the main issue that really should have been fixed is the locomotion. I've had my Rift coming up to 2 years so I'm not a newcomer to VR but only having smooth movement and smooth turning with NO speed options that I could find really started to make me feel nauseous quickly, and generally made the experience of exploring the ship an uncomfortable chore. I'm amazed that the old Titanic demo actually had better locomotion, and even better performance than this. I really hope this is something that is fixed as a priority.

A really excellent example of how VR can be used to transport you right into the middle of incredible historical events. It's one thing to watch these things on films or see them in games, but to actually 'sit' there in a Lancaster and hear the genuine audio of what was going on is quite a sobering experience. The Lancaster itself is well modelled and the crew are surprisingly lifelike, my only slight issues would be that the ground is a little 2d and low res which slightly detracts from the experience, but not by much. There is also a bug at one point where the upper gunner shoots down a 109 but the muzzle flash appears too far down the barrel but I presume that will be fixed in a patch. Overall, HIGHLY reccommended.

The environments are excellent, really high resolution and movement around them is great. Plus the voiceover guides are interesting. The location selection menu/'Earth' thing however is really awful. I found it incredibly difficult to actually select a location. Honestly guys, a simple list of locations would be MUCH better. I'm using a Rift and I've tried it in both Rift and Vive modes and both show the Rift Touch controllers, however I found when I did manage to highlight a location, I had to press the joystick in rather than the A button as stated. The Rift mode did crash a couple of times but the Vive mode seemed fine. Performance of both was the same.

Not bad at all for what it is, and a really promising insight into future Virtual Museums. The graphics are very basic, there are displays dotted around that are mostly readable but some are too low resolution to see clearly. I also found everything slightly washed out which I think may be something to do with the lighting used. There is ambient sound in some areas but no sound at all in the main engine hall which is a little odd. The steam engines themselves are modelled and animated to decent enough standard and general performance is just about OK so it's worth a download if you have a passing interest in engineering, though the whole experience would benefit from some polishing. Also worth mentioning, the experience works great on an Oculus Rift.

Early Access Review
Despite being an Early Access title, H3VR has become my go-to VR game. It's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ outstanding, and just keeps getting better.
