as far as rts goes its easier to get in to than other genres. And i think this total war is probably more of the easier ones to play, as you have magic and certain factions are better at certain things giving you room to set up crazy combos that if executed can make the game seem almost too easy, even at higher levels. If you understand the basics of this game, its not a very hard one after that. But i see myself playing this game for much longer. As the games are long, and i find myself actually trying to figure out the best strategy, unlike other games i play where i try to just cheese everything, which if youre into that type of thing is totally in this game.
I bought this when it was on sale, and so it didnt really bother me when mortal empires was pretty much the only reason i bought the second one, as i thought the first games races werent that great to play, -personal preference other than the vampire counts- but you need both games to play that campaign. so take that with a grain of salt i suppose. But saying that you need both games to be able to enjoy everything is kind of the point. as they are essentially the same game, with the third installment probably looking more like a dlc package, then a full fledged game.
TL;DR easy rts that lets you play youre way, but has a boatload of dlc -units and factions- thats in the game, but behind a paywall that you have to pay to play as those races/units. (if im being honest youll be paying the same price for this full game with all dlc, as you would to just go to a games workshop outlet and buy the starter set, paint, brushes, fake grass and dirt.)
