Wow, what an experience. The Shuttle launch is just a ride along experience, but it gives you the sense of rush that it would have been.

The interactive missions are great. The controls, while not always obvious (I tried to physically use the joysticks in the cabin, rather than those on the Oculus Touch controllers), are intuitive. You get a real sense of achievement when completing the mission. And a sense of regret when you accidentally let something float off into space...

Then there is the Landing simulation. Here you do get to take control of the shuttle and attempt to land it. I say attempt, because it's not easy! I crashed first time, and still haven't managed more than 1 star! The gyro controls here are great, makes it feel a lot more like using the real controls. Perhaps using the thumbsticks will be easier (I'll try that later). There's three different landing sites, each with multiple approach scenarios. Plenty of replay-ability. Plus the challenge to get that 3 star rating!

If you've played Elite Dangerous, or one of the other space sims, in VR, then you know the rush. You know it works. But that launch is something else. You'd love a full haptic simulation rig to really feel it, but the immersion is there.

And if you've played Kerbal, Space Engineers, Stable Orbit etc. and wanted to actually experience, hands on experience, the deploying and maintenance of space craft, then Shuttle Commander is what you are looking for.

Aside from the lack of license (which if you look at the Steam Workshop content available can become a mute point) there is very little to complain about. What at first appeared to be a light management sim, very quickly became a major time sink. The balance of complexity is just right. If you’re looking for a light touch simulation you can skip practise and even qualifying or race days. Alternatively, you can sit in on all sessions in real-time, tuning the balance of the car just right during practice, sending your driver out at the optimal time in qualifying, and pulling off the perfect strategy during the race.

Almost everything that was wrong about SimCity is put right by Cities: Skylines. It has restored my faith in the entire genre.

I previewed Mini Metro for CalmDownTom and fell in love with the game. The simplistic style is an absolute delight and I can't wait to see how the game develops. Read more here: http://calmdowntom.com/2014/09/should-i-be-excited-about-mini-metro/

All in, Gas Guzzlers Extreme is a nice surprise. While the campaign is a little slow, you’re still going to have fun with it. Multiplayer is where it’s at though, so long as it gets popular enough that you don’t end up in full AI lobbies. The sense of humor is good, it looks great, and the gameplay is so well tuned that at times you will forget you are playing a driving game altogether, and instead think you are playing a classic FPS game like Quake or UT.
