tl;dr my boyfriend is addicted to this game called Rust and it is destroying our relationship. What should I do? So, I have been dating my boyfriend Jared for about two years now, and until recently, our relationship has been good, one of the best if not the best in my entire life. I could have seen myself marrying him one day. J has always been into gaming, and while it's not my cup of tea, I've generally been fine with it and have even played a few games with him (Don't Starve Together, Terraria, and a few others).

Normally I just go to read and he plays his games and we enjoy a nice time at home together since we both don't like to go out all that much. But in the beginning of this year my boyfriend picked up this game called "Rust", which from what I get is some kind of survival simulator. Initially, the time he spent on it wasn't so bad, just an hour or two every day, and it didn't really impact our relationship much. But soon, he would be spending 3-4 hours a day, every day, on it, the equivalent of a part-time job.

Even then I was pretty much fine with it, because he works really hard and I understand his need to decompress. But the last three months has been ridiculous-he has been playing eight hours a day, every day, and I can't even pull him away from the screen from Thursday until late Saturday evening because apparently it is something called a wipe day where he needs to be on for extended periods of times to build his base? He has even changed his work schedule around to accomodate this, he gets Thursday and Friday off and goes in Saturday-Wednesday-which is a problem because I work a traditional schedule so I get to see my boyfriend even less. He's even turned me down for sex or asked me to just give him a blowjob while he plays.

When I confronted him about it and asked him why he playing so much he explained that the recent changes to the game had made it much more difficult for him, a solo player, to survive on this higher-population community he was playing on and that it was his hobby and that he brought home money, that I shouldn't complain, and that he would be bringing in even more money by streaming the game on Twitch. I admit I got a little heated and told him he would be "solo" in real life if he didn't start spending more time with me but he just told me to stop nagging and closed the door on me. I'm sitting here writing this message on the verge of tears and don't know what I should do. I love this man, but he loves his game and its developers more than me (he spends more time talking about the life of the lead developer than he does talking about our relationship!).
