I picked up Gods and Kings. It adds in Religion which really does add in a huge mechanic. Much bigger than espionage. Espionage kinda gets annoying when your allies are stealing research from you. I'd say it adds quite a bit to Civ 5. If you enjoy Civ 5, then you'll enjoy Gods and Kings. It adds enough in to call it an expantion pack.
