It's D&D you can play by yourself, or with friends, because Larian is the DM.

In this current state, I cannot recommend this game. Between crashes unless disabling DX12, a toxic community, mechanical jankiness such as getting stuck in rocks or objectives locking you against the terrain, until the game is in a better state, I cannot recommend it.

This is my first review ever, so if the formatting is terrible bear with me. I felt compelled to review this or the TWD Season One since I love both of them, but given that Season Two is more recent, I'll review it instead. Just to note, I have beaten Season One three times and Season Two once and I'm on a second playthrough, so there is definitely replay value to both of these games, especially considering you get to import your save from Season One.

Since I like lists:
Pros
  • Great story and character development: The writing, voice acting, animation, and directing are all great. The delivery is just awesome. In terms of just the story, this game is an emotional rollercoaster. The decisions you make change how the story goes, so each play (unless you just pick the same choices every time) is a slightly different story.
  • Gameplay is not a typical point and click adventure: If you've played Season One, then you already know what I mean. The action in this game is primarily picking responses to either questions or other actions, within a time limit. The developers also improved the gameplay over Season One; the actions are no longer one or two button clicks, but rather combinations in specific orders in order to operate tools and what not.
  • Graphics are well done and clean (for the most part): I've seen a few snags here and there with objects not behaving how they really should (like clipping through terrain or something), and I don't think it's due to my system, but for the most part the graphics are good and the game runs really smoothly. Of course, they are stylized to resemble the comics, so if that style isn't your style, you may not enjoy the graphics.
  • Music and sound all fit the setting: Very well done. Music is always fitting to the scene, and of course the sound effects are all on point. Really adds to the richness of the game.
  • Importing your decisions from Season One: Really only pertains if you have played Season One, but it's a great feature. I replayed Season One two times to have different stories (so three different stories total) before I started my playthrough of Season Two. Honestly any game that is a continuation of a previous one should have this feature.
And of course:
Cons
  • Controls can be a little wonky at times: I played both Season One and Season Two with an Xbox 360 controller. I've also played Season One with a mouse & keyboard. I've noticed on both setups that sometimes the cursor sensitivity seems to get thrown and it makes aiming difficult during action scenes, which can really make or break the outcome of the event and thus the story.
  • You walk. All. The. Time: So Season Two definitely added a slight jog feature which wasn't (or didn't seem to be) present in Season One, but it's still super slow. Thankfully most of the things you need to interact with are close by, but still, really?
  • Timers are short at times: You really have to focus on just playing this game when you go at it. Sometimes I casually play a game while watching a movie or something. Can't do this at all in this game -- I was able to for most of Season One, but you'll end up missing decisions or dying fairly quick in Season Two if you try that.

I couldn't think of more cons. If I can edit this perhaps I will add more?
Honestly, if you've played Season One and enjoyed it and haven't purchased Season Two yet, buy it. Right now.

If you haven't played Season One, you will most likely still enjoy this game, but due to the import feature I highly recommend buying and playing Season One first. I guess this may classify as a spoiler, but it really can't since the game description tells you anyway: The protagonist of Season Two is a pivotal character in Season One, hence a lot of their backstory is from Season One and impacts how they behave in this game. So there's that; however, I haven't played Season Two without an import, so I'm not sure how things would be different.
