Fantastically addictive, trying to keep up with the flow of scratching tickets in the endgame is quite the rush.

Fun concept, slightly grindy at the midpoint but not insurmountable

Short game, enjoyable for the time I had. Reminded of flash games where upgrades eventually lead to a break that ends the game. But for the experience, kept me playing for the full duration of around 3-4 hours.

Never confuse a single defeat with a final defeat. –F. Scott Fitzgerald

This is my first souls game, and it has not held back in the slightest. I have the open freedom to build my character as I please to fight the world how I wish to do so. Immediately faced with a boss that could be skipped while you progress through one of the story options, there's the drive that comes from getting stomped into death: "I can do better than that, I'll get them next time!" The next time sometimes takes hours. I'm no speedrunner, I'm no savant blessed with the reaction and intellect to carve my way through this game with adapting and overcoming quicker than most, I'm a casual by all means. This game has humbled me hundreds of times, but I keep coming back.

The world presented before you is breath-taking. Being fortunate to be able to run this game on Ultra settings is enough to bring a sense of awe and wonderment through the exploration of this vibrant world, and that does not diminish a single time during the progression of the game.

This game is truly Open World, with a few exceptions for the sake of story progression to unlock areas. But if you're brave enough to venture to where you can teleport to ahead of time, you're allowed to be there. Questlines that can be picked up early into the game and finished much later on, depending on how you want your campaign to go. Your only hints in game are offered through the dialogue presented, and up to you to explore to find the answers.

I lost my cool a few times, almost giving up because the fights gave me an insurmountable feeling of hopelessness. That I was simply beating my head against the game, a slow descent into insanity believing the result would be victory over "You Died". Pushing through isn't easy. You will be humbled if you aren't aware of your limits, or mechanics of your enemies. You're almost never too strong for a cluster of mobs to kill you, even if you've cleared the entire zone's bosses. That's the beauty of this game, you keep going. Push the limits of perseverance, bathe in the agony of defeat until you can break that ceiling set previously, and see more of the world's beauty. You're stronger for next time, and you'll need to be.

From Software has taken their finest pieces of previous souls games into this magnum opus experience. I would really do your best to avoid guides, spoilers, things that can take away from the allure and mystery this world presents you, to fight the way you please.

Early Access Review
This is a mostly fun experience. It's not a perfect game, but far from a bad experience. I'm writing this as of the Engineer update.

You're able to have variety in your ability options later in the game when unlocking more, not much locked behind a fresh file other than upgraded/alternate weapons and runes. Skill Trees take you through most of the scaling, and at the moment cap off at Level 170 per character.

Character variety gives me multiple options to do a run with, and I enjoy breaking away from some of the intended routes. However, you will struggle if you want to farm the higher curses for materials without a build that can handle them, as intended with difficulty scaling. There's still enough to let you focus on the highest movement speed glass cannon or a negative movement speed tank shredding your enemies.

Performance issues into later stages plague this game for me. I've played this in windowed, fullscreen, mac and windows, and there's a decay in frame rate as you get farther into an endless cycle. This is one of my major gripes, as that's the only thing stopping me from progressing further into runs most of the time. I'm hoping this is fixed over time, mac optimization is a pipe dream when it's already a hard OS to do gaming on. However, those issues don't happen with other games supported on Mac in the genre such as Hades or Vampire Survivors.

Overall, for the price point, and update plans, I would recommend this game if you're a fan of the Rougelike genre. 7/10

Holds were something I missed in the main game and was excited to see them included, immediate praise for more creative options than base game beyond those, to avoid spoiling all of them. ADOFAI chart community eats really good with this DLC.

There's a story now, with an introduction of characters, rather than the vague untold story from the base game. I can only compare my feelings on it to those who enjoy characters in DDR and those who are not wanting them as another distraction from the mechanic of gameplay. Far from a deal breaker.

These levels do not hold back, not for the faint of heart. Even with more checkpoints and medals based on sections, they will kick your butt. But the trial to complete these levels are well worth the effort to do so. A true treat to play.

If you struggled with Heracles or Butterfly Planet, those are a cakewalk to the Neo Cosmos worlds mechanics/rhythms.

I quit WoW because I was tired of dying from tabbing back into Balatro during questing, if you're wondering how addictive Balatro is.
