Early Access Review
Decided to try this out after I kept seeing it on Reddit. Game definitely deserves all the praise it's getting.

TL;DR This a decent story game but a really crappy roguelike card game. I don't see why people are raving about it so hard. I will focus on gameplay so as to not spoil anything.

Part 1 ; Although sometimes you get shafted early on, you will get something OP every other run. Seeing as this is the part of the game that Kaycee's Mod lengthens, I do not understand how people can sit and play for hours after beating the main game. This was my favorite part of the game and I was excited to see what more lie in store, but I was sorely disappointed

Part 2 ; Not much to say about this. I think I only changed 4 cards out of the starting deck, but you could probably beat it without changing the starting deck at all quite easily.

Part 3 ; I was excited here at first but this turned out to be the easiest part of all. The bosses had some fun gimmicks that changed up the flow of battle a little bit, but if you can do single digit math without a calculator you should steamroll this part of the game.

I thought there was gonna be a lot more content in this game but I was pretty disappointed when I realized that was it. 6 hours and it was over (I left the game open for a bit while I ate and showered, hence 6.7 hours played). If you want to play a deckbuilding roguelike I suggest getting Slay the Spire instead and just watching a Let's Play of this.

Fibbage and Quiplash are fun for everyone

Earwax is good if your friends are literally retarded

Bidiots is awful if your friends are retarded

Haven't touched Bomb Corp, seems to be in the same vein as Space Team (free phone game)

I opened Steam this evening and this game immediately caught my eye. The graphics and combat seemed charming and I love a good soundtrack. All the reviews were positive so I bought it and began playing ASAP.

I wouldn't recommend this game at its current price ($9) but I can't say I regret having played it either. I was expecting the game to be scarier than it was; I don't think the game spooked me once. The game always lets you know when you are about to fight and I only died twice up until the final boss. Not that it matters if you die, you resume right where you left off.

As for the combat, it starts off simply enough and then... it stays pretty simple. I thought that it would be a little bit more innovative considering all you are doing is clicking one of three colored rectangles. Most of the fights are pretty boring. The rectangles pop up around the screen and you have to click the one that's the same color as the demon's eyes. Some fights are a little bit harder, the rectangles move around quickly or rectangles pop in and out, changing color each time. These are slightly more engaging than the beginning, but still pretty simple. If you fail on one of these fights though, you're sure to win the second time because the order of the colors isn't even random. Once you've seen a fight once, you can simply place your cursor where you know the correct card is going to show up and you win pretty quickly. Two of the fights have a "three seashells/three cups" type mechanic where the cards are shown, covered and then shuffled around. I'm usually pretty good at these, but the cards are shuffled much to quickly to actually discern where they end up. Like all the other fights though, the card placement isn't even random so these would take you at most three tries (the first one of these fights is where I died). The fights get a little bit harder, but not by much. The second time I died was on a demon whose cards were spinning rapidly in a circle. I'm usually pretty good at this kind of thing too, I've won many a jackpot on those light roulette type machines at arcades (I know they're rigged). I left my cursor at the bottom of the spinning wheel and clicked when the correct card passed by. The game didn't even respond to the first few clicks, it's like the cards were moving too fast for the game to calculate their hitboxes (clickboxes?). The only bit that was somewhat innovative was near the end, the "spot the difference" bit. The screen is filled with a grid of cards that are almost crosses and you have to click the one that's an actual cross. I got my hopes up that the rest of the fights would be as good as that bit, but that was pretty much the best fight of the whole game. Safe to say, if you want to buy this game hoping for innovative combat, don't.

The story was pretty charming I guess, and I thought that Hell was kinda trippy, which was cool. But for as short of a game as it is, it leaves quite a few things not wrapped up. Who is moon man? The ♥♥♥♥ is wrong with that goddess? The painting of Astaroth said something about being peaceful but that seemed to be very untrue. What's up with the Reapers?

As for the soundtrack, I literally just finished the game and I can't remember a thing I heard. Most of the game is spent in silence and the songs that are there aren't that great. As I sit here trying to think of even a bar of music that was in this game, all that pops into my head is Undertale music.

Most disappointing of all, I finished this game in just a few minutes over two hours, which means my $9 is gone forever. When I started writing this review I thought that I didn't regret playing this game, but I think I was just trying to justify the $9 I spent on it. Honestly, I wish I could have my time and money back.

If you're interested in this game at all, just watch a Let's Play of it instead. If you can even find one that is, because as of right now there is only one on YouTube.

I really hate to bash somebody's passion project that they spent 2.5 years making, but this game really sucks. Take your $9 to McDonald's instead, you'll be much more satisfied.
