graphically impressive, otherwise boring and predictable. the latter half completely removes you from whats actually happening and instead explains the characters past regrets, which wouldn't make sense were it not for one note which explains what's actually happening in reality, which is an easter egg you have go out of your way to find.
Any care for whats actually happening in the world is lost as you literally cannot tell what is happening due to the hallucinations interrupting it. This especially applies for the "ending". Unlike the first, you will have no idea what is going on and then the game will just end with the characters backstory resolved and literally nothing else. All this just for the sequel to be outlast trials, which ofc dips into what happens during 2, but being a prequel doesnt do much more than use the location as a plot device.

Once you figure out that this game is a walking simulator majority of the time, there is nothing left to enjoy. Not like the first, where even once you understood this, there was story and characters to care about. Despite all this, this game is praised for being one of the best horror games of all time, so who cares what i have to say

good game remade faithfully. multiplayer/foxhound needs balancing changes but otherwise very fun with a good partner and some replayable elements. Hopefully gets expanded

My original issue with this game has resolved. Its still super CPU reliant, but every since season 2 it seems to have been improved upon. However, the game now is severely lacking in content. This was one of the most popular games of 2025 and EA still cant afford to actually update this game with more than 2 maps a season and slopfeed tiny amounts of content. In most cases, 1 map on season launch and another mid season. Its disgusting and a total middle finger to the success this game had on launch. Had they bothered to keep it updated and fresh, it likely could've been the call of duty killer they have always wanted. Instead, they are using the same playbook all for the worse. This game is good at its core but with nothing to do and lots of very annoying challenges (in order to make any form of progression), it gets very old very quick

gameplay wise, pretty good, rarely a mechanic is annoying and even so they don't stay long enough to be an issue. My major issue with this game is the dialogue and writing. Its generic and incredibly irritating. You do not need to have both characters spamming pointless lines between each other during set pieces. Never mind that the actual story itself is a barely disguised "AI le bad, people le good" story, i would be all for that if it were actually implemented properly into the story. Instead, its just "the machine" "stealing ideas" without their consent, and the story crutches on that a lot and its just not interesting. They do vaguely attempt to give the characters depth, but its predictable and uninteresting. It is painfully hard trying to enjoy this games writing, and for that i just can't give it a positive review. It seriously overshadows the gameplay especially with in game dialogue being so awful. I honestly hoped it would've gotten better as the characters opened up and became "deeper". but it just does not progress at all.

Gameplay wise, it implements co op in a meaningful way, as to be expected of hazel-light, and for that alone its worth buying and playing. Its mostly fun and it doesn't crutch on your friend/second player to make the game enjoyable. If ur willing to not care about the story/not take it seriously, then it will be enjoyable, thats very much what i have been doing.

i have played a way out on xbox and on EA, also by hazel, and it honestly struggles in a similar way story wise. What it didn't suffer from, was insufferable dialogue that ruins the experience, it just had a generic plot. I would honestly prefer that over what they did here.

Also, a minor jab, but it seriously annoyed me that for the first half of the game, the characters would call out side stories every time they were in the area, but suddenly stop doing that and then complain when you don't go to it? its obvious they want you to do each side story, and they range from fun to weirdly pointless, but don't get rid of the shoutouts while keeping in the "oh, its such a shame we didn't do that sidestory. I guess it wasn't important enough dear players. please play our side content"

All in all, horrible writing, ok-good gameplay, good co op. Worthwhile? if ur willing to put up with the story, sure! but a no from me

Much as people love to blame this game for being the reason cod is "the way it is today", this game is very grounded both in its campaign, co op, and multiplayer collectively. "Silly" cosmetics are minimal and still stick to military gear for 99.9% of them.
What ur getting is a fun campaign with an interesting story that re-introduces characters from the original series while not relying on nostalgia. Definitely one of the better cod campaigns in the series.
Multiplayer is very buggy no thanks to raven and their mishandling of vanguard and cold wars integrations, as this game -to this day- has every asset from cold war and vanguard still present including caldera -warzones last map- due to the steam release never getting these removed. So the UI is laggy, you will see glitched/hacked cold war operators from time to time and the face model for one of the default russian milsims is still broken, which also leaks into the campaign. Executions are now bugged and sometimes use vanguard assets, watches when set to random allow for cold war and vanguard watches to be used and ground war is missing maps it had post launch of the original game. WHEN you actually play it though, its more slow than recent cods, has some decently big maps and it fun to play.
CO-OP is sadly very dead, but functions fine. If you have people to play it with its semi enjoyable if not slightly boring, the story doesn't really work well but the gameplay is unique for each mission. survival is survival, just waves of enemies but with custom guns and attachments that you earn. classic co op uses campaign maps like the old co op from the original series and those missions are fun too, and you can play them without others or with less than 4 people via private matches

Graphically the game still looks stunning and runs great, my 4070 averages 200+fps on max settings at 1080p. and theres no forced TAA like mwIII and bo6, so it doesn't look like a blurry mess. Theres still annoying artefacts on metal surfaces like the revolver handle, but otherwise very clean. This game somehow looks better than both mwIII and bo6 while being 5-6 years older, but ig thats what happens when you use ugly colour schemes and make your game run like ♥♥♥♥. The campaign shows this off brilliantly but both MP and CO-OP also look great.

The audio design is amazing and attention to detail is surprising. Audio sounds natural and 3D, and small details that you wouldn't think can be found. Guns sound real (which is to be expected considering the noises were recorded) and feel like they have actual weight, one of my favs is the HDR sniper, the rechamber sound is so satifying.

Overall, a great game mildly ruined by warzones intergrations, is it still worth getting? On sale yes, its very often as cheap as £15 and for that price you get a lot of content and value even for just the campaign and co op. If bo6s movement is something you hate, you will like this game a lot for that alone. Overall a 8/10

Theres a tendency even still as of editing to call this game a walking simulator, but it really isn't once you are outside of the tutorials chains. The start of the game is WEAK, you are only held by the story for a good two hours, which sounds like a lot of time until you realise that theres over 100 hours of content and thats if you rush through it. I'd say realistically theres nearly 300 hours of total content. PUSH THROUGH, it is oh so worth it, and learn to DEAL with the threats offered rather than avoiding them, it is most efficient to avoid enemies but it makes the game painfully boring especially in the east region. Bring equipment with you to help you, rather than finding workarounds. Play on max difficulty too, it only affects enemies and timefall and it still ends up feeling like "normal" on max. This game is anything but a walking sim unless you allow it to be
