I put 500+ hours into STS 1 on my phone before discovering it was on Steam. I won’t make the same mistake again.

Great game. JRPGs shouldn’t limit themselves to 3-4 party members.

Pros:
- streamlined story
- no padded dialogue you can’t skip
- an actual video game where you can play the damn thing instead of read exposition for hours
- early game characters are still relevant in the end game
- level design isn’t boring; towns look and feel like towns, dungeons look and feel like dungeons
- combat has depth with the amount of job combinations involved
- sometimes story tropes are good
- a ton of secret collectibles worth getting
- true ending final boss is probably the first 35 v 1 turn based game I’ve ever played
- no flying sidekick

Cons:
- they added a difficulty slider when previous games didn’t. Net negative. Made the game (and true ending boss) extremely easy since no developer has ever balanced a game with difficulty sliders from beginning to end
- great characters only available in the last part of the game
- my favorite character only permanently available in front of the final super boss
- ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ difficulty sliders, remove them from video games, balance your games correctly, let noobs figure it out for themselves
- no depth for customizing the MC
- no advanced jobs
- no secret jobs
- if super mario bros had a difficulty slider, i wouldn’t be playing video games today. Remove it.
