For an earnest and queer title, it's nice that it allows itself to be perhaps a little bit exaggerated, hokey, and frankly problematic in the same way that straight galge have gotten away with for ages instead of forcing itself to be perfectly ideal and soft. Something of a "popcorn read", but there ain't nothing wrong with that.

Absolutely love a detective game that demands the player actually put in the legwork to make sense of the clues rather than rub two items together until they fit. Couple that with some great moody pixel art and you've got yourself a success.

God I miss this game; to this day there's genuinely nothing else like its "The Enemy's Gate is Down" 3D skirmishes.

The most JRPG-like JRPG to be a non-J RPG. Definitely a bit stiff and very occasionally glitchy as of when I last played it in 2022, but you already know by looking at the screenshots whether or not this is your bag.

Initially a quite interesting time-management game, but the longer it goes on, the more it trivializes those elements in order to slide into a collection of bespoke arcade-style games couched in a framing device that imposes an odd time limit. Still quite fun, but a game that will initially peter out into losing its shine rather than one that will end on strong note.

I was drawn to this by GBC-looking character art, but really it feels like an amalgamation of what might have been in vogue around 1999, a mashup of everything you remember the era looking like, with a strong sense of color.

"Ex-Magical-Girls have quarter-life crises" seems to be a more and more common story conceit nowadays, and frankly it's still working for me. Bonus points for being persistently gay and only as long as it needs to be. Beware that getting the "true ending" is a little glitchy, but forgiving enough when you're on the right track that you can muddle through.

This game, right here, *is* them "makin' em like they used to".

If you're a Monster Hunter fiend like I am, you've already made your decision.

For everyone else, beware not only the horrendous PC performance for its visual quality, but also a needlessly complicated lobby system and one of the most aggressively guardrails-y, hands-held, perscriptive campaigns in recent memory for *any* video game, which sprints in the opposite direction from historic series convention in order to make the first seven hours of the game so far feel like a mollycoddling tutorial level in how it often won't let you step twenty feet away from NPCs.

A frustrating experience, but we just love to Hunt these Monsters, man.

Great digital translation of a crowd-pleaser card game. Can't beat that price with a stick.
