Chapter one has some interesting plot hooks, good dialogue, and Hussie flair. I'm interested in learning more about the characters and seeing where it goes.

I think people may broadly fall into the categories of "likes story and note-driven horror" or "doesn't like that". Those in the latter category won't really like the games that Frictional puts out, or if they do are probably not enjoying all aspects of them.

For myself, I've been a huge fan of theirs from the Penumbra days, and they continue to delight me.

This is not a perfect game. While I disagree with some that claim characterization issues across the board (there's a large cast of mostly less important characters, and I think the flavor of noting them was more important than fleshing them out equally), I do think some more focus could have been given to a few of them.

That being said, the lore is fun (and connects to the original if you're paying attention), the plot is interesting, the level design is scary and the horror is well-paced. Did I like it as much as Some or Amnesia: the Dark Descent? Maybe a little less, but I'm thrilled to see Frictional continuing to focus on new types of stories, explore new types of experiences. It's very interesting to play a game where motherhood is looked at some intimately, and woven into the rest of the plot.

If you like narrative horror, and maybe want to try being afraid and alone instead of fragging zombies, I'd say check this out. If you're not sure: buy any of Frictional's other games. They go on sale by quite a bit, and if you don't like them, I doubt you'll like this one either.

This is the only RTS I've really enjoyed. The non-conventional focus on rescue and varied (yet limited) units make it feel more action-y, and the focus of unit placement and the overworld give it a boardgame feel (in a good way).
