Red Dead Redemption 2 (stylized as Red Dead Redemption II, abbreviated as RDR2) is an open-world action-adventure third-person shooter video game developed by Rockstar Studios[comm. 1] and released by Rockstar Games for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles on October 26, 2018, and for Windows personal computers on November 5, 2019. It is the third game in the Red Dead series and a prequel to 2010's Red Dead Redemption.

Red Dead Redemption 2, designed in the spirit of a western, takes place in several fictional states of the United States at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The plot of the game revolves around the adventures of the Dutch Van der Linde gang; the player controls one of the gang members, Arthur Morgan, and after completing the storyline to the epilogue, another member of the gang, John Marston. After a failed ferry robbery, the bandits are forced to hide in the wilderness from federal agents and bounty hunters. Red Dead Redemption 2 offers the player to freely travel around the vast world of the game, independently finding interesting places and activities - such possible activities include shootouts, robberies, hunting wild animals, horse racing and finding collectibles (cigarette cards, catching legendary fish/animals, dinosaur bones, rock paintings, etc.). A special "honor" system, taking into account both the worthy and criminal actions of the player, affects both the plot of the game and the gameplay.

After the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, as one of the most anticipated and widely advertised games at that time, it broke several sales records - in just two weeks after their launch, over 17 million copies of the game were sold, bringing Rockstar over $725 million in profit. It received high marks from the press, with reviewers praising the story, characters, freedom provided to the player, and the developers' extraordinary attention to detail. The game also collected a number of prestigious awards at the end of 2018, including Critic's Choice at the Golden Joystick Awards and Best Narrative and Best Soundtrack at The Game Awards. The game also won Outstanding Technical Achievement at the 22nd Annual D.I.C.E. Awards in 2018, presented by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences.

Arthur Morgan is the protagonist of Red Dead Redemption 2 by Rockstar Games. Arthur is an outlaw, a high-ranking member of the Van der Linde gang, who must deal with the decline of the Wild West while trying to fight government forces and other enemies in a fictional representation of the American frontier.

Arthur Morgan was born in 1863. His mother died when Arthur was very young, and his father was a petty criminal who was arrested for larceny in 1874, after which he was killed in front of Arthur. Arthur was later taken in by Dutch van der Linde when he was about fourteen, becoming Dutch's first protégé. At some point in his life, Arthur met a girl named Mary Gillis and the two fell in love. However, Arthur's attraction to a life of crime and the disapproval of Mary's family led to the breakdown of their relationship. Arthur also had a son, Isaac, with a nineteen-year-old waitress named Eliza; Arthur would occasionally visit and support Eliza and Isaac every few months, staying with them for a few days at a time. One day during his visit, Arthur discovered two wooden crosses on their land and realized that his loved ones were dead. He learned that they had been robbed and murdered for the paltry sum of ten dollars. Arthur never fully came to terms with their deaths, and the incident had a profound effect on Arthur's loyalty to the gang, viewing them more as family. Over time, Arthur became Dutch's most loyal gunslinger.
