This game is very much different from the original game and designed to provide a streamlined story and plenty of options to new players for an enjoyable introduction to Dragon Quest. I would recommend this to someone who is playing a Dragon Quest game for the first time and then once they finish this game tell them to go play the original to see what we had at one point.

My only gripe with the game is how frequently the goddess statues show up. I don't mind that they provide free healing but I wish they weren't there at every entrance to a dungeon and before every boss fight.

Edit: So I went to 100% the game. I still haven't at this time but I am close. It should only be another few hours. 100% the game isn't hard by any stretch, especially if you have the DLC but getting every item is not fun. I don't know who designed the Lucky Panel but that person should not have a job. To make the achievement only obtainable using the lucky panel (because that is the only place where you can get like 15 items). This thing is not fun. It is poor game design towards this achievement. If the items had other places to be obtained from I would not be so angry about this. If by the unlikely chance the game devs read this, please update the game so that those items are obtainable elsewhere

Other than that would still recommend the game as you will enjoy the other 99.99% of the game.
