I remember that I *loved* this game when it was Final Fantasy III on the SNES, and it still feel ike the same game that I loved in the early section. But the *constant* game breaking bugs make it unplayable. It seem slike every second time I go into the menu to use an item, change equipment, or cast a spell, that when I exit the menu my character has vanished. Or turn into a magitek suit thats frozen in place.
And it's still happening on a clean install on a new PC.
I want to love this game again, but it won't ket me.

I want to like this game so much, I really do. It does so much stuff right. Graphics are stylized and gorgeous, combat is fun, characters are good, story is OK still 23 hours in.
And there's a ton of side stuff do do. In theory anyway. I'm almost to the point of throwing my controller at the wall if I'm told one more time that I can't actually go out to do anything in the evening because I'm too tired, or because I have a big day tomorrow, or because I'm too full from the meal I just ate (seriously!)
Let me play the *censored* game please instead of arbitrarily locking me out of using my already limited in-game time.
I can deal with the on-rails storytelling, or the annoying flashback story arc setups. But stop locking me out of using time that should be available to actually do something.
It gets a bare thumbs up from me still, for all the stuff it gets right, but it's a lukewarm recommendation at best.

Playing as Spider-Man is awesome, web slinging is smooth and feels fun. Combat is perfectly adequate, boss battles (so far) are decently varied. There's a ton of optional side quests/activities to keep you busy.

But for the love of god, enough with the damn Mary-Jane stealth missions. If I wanted to play as Mary Jane, I'd have bought "Marvels Mary Jane: The Game" They're the only serious negative I've come across so far that just drain away my will to play.

Playing as Spider-Man = 8/10 - not perfect (would be 9/10 without the QTEs), but a ton of fun
Playing as Mary Jane = maybe a 3 or 4/10 = not what I bought the game for at all, and not particularly fun.
Overall about a 7/10 - there's few enough MJ missions (so far) to not affect the overall score too much.

Update : Finally thought of something good to say about the MJ missions. They're a great reminder to turn the game off and take a break for a while. Which I've done every time I've come to one. They even exist in at least the 1st DLC (haven't played the 2nd/3rd DLC yet)
Still a fun game outside of that, even after 100%ing the main story.

Vanilla game is good, although RNG can be *very* frustrating sometimes.
Modded game can be great. I've probably got <50 hours with the vanilla game, but modded with BTA3062, I've played it more then any other (non-mmorpg) game in my library, by a wide margin.
Play through the campaign at least once before starting to mod the game, it's worth it.
I've also heard great things about Roguetech as a mod, but haven't tried it so can't give an opinion.
Hug a modder today, they deserve it.

The strongest of the text/visual novel VtM games, well written, and feels the most gameplay-accurate as well.

I tried to like this....I really did, it's just so inferior to coteries of New York that I'll just go back and play that instead.

Story mode is fun, if rather short.
Why the f*** can't I adjust the difficulty on single-player multiverse?
Don't care about multiplayer. I'm not particularly good at fighting games and don't need that frustration.

Story mode is worth it if you can get the game at a *deep* discount.
Needs more options for the casual player, we're locked out of enjoying too much of the rest of the content.
Cannot recommend at full price. The frustration of getting stuck on an unwinnable fight in multiverse...honestly it's just not worth it.
Buy it cheap, play the story mode, and GTFO.

Thank goodness I got this for free from Humblebundle. Looks like a great game, but I couldn't say as it is apparently impossible to get past the name entry screen.

0/10

Thank god the bundle this came with included Crash Bandicoot and Spyro. This is the game I bought the bundle for, but would feel extremely cheated if it wasn't for the other 2 games, because this one is trash.
I'd refund it if I could...sadly, bundle.

Edit: After giving it more playtime in an attempt to be fair: F*ck your QTEs, and double f*ck your changing the keypress required when re-attempting the QTE after failure.
(PS: obv. my opinion of the game has not improved as I've progressed.)

I really want to give this game a good review, but to do that, I need the f***ing game to actually start. Apparently this game has had issues with game breaking bugs since its release, which haven't been fixed yet. Luckily I've been able to get it to record a couple minutes of playtime, so I'm able to post a review warning people that they may want to avoid this hot mess (unlike FF VII, which wont let me post a review because it won't credit me with any playtime for the myriad of times I tried to make it work) From the reviews I've read, the game is fine and fun. Just be warned it's a technical dumpster fire to make work on a modern system.
