One of my favorite games. In a couple ways it's almost Dark Souls's cute little sister. It's tough, atmospheric, and plays like a dream.

This is one of the best games of 2017. The visuals are absolutely gorgeous, and a ethereal soundtrack thorough create a calm, lonely atmosphere very reminiscent at times of Super Metroid. The controls are tight and combat is fluid, but deliberate. The amount of content is staggering for a $15 game, especially if you're a completionist. It took me about 25 hours to complete the game with above 90% completion (I'm still searching for those last few mask shards and charms) and was worth every second. I never felt lost or without direction and was always working towards something (even if I didn't know exactly what that something was).

The only negatives I can give this game is there are parts of the map that backtracking to can get slightly tedious, which mostly becomes a problem for completionist runs. In addition to that, there's an option section including some rather brutal, almost Super Meat Boy-esque platforming, which became very frustrating very quickly and really struck me as coming out of nowhere. Almost the entire rest of the game is more heavy on the action than the platforming, platforming being more of a means to the action and exploration. There are a couple challenge or almost puzzly platforming sections strewn throughout, but nothing that made me die repeatedly in frustration. Fortunately, as I said this is an optional section and overall is very doable with perserverance.

If you're a fan of metroidvanias, you'd be doing yourself a disservice to not pick this one up. It has tight controls, is gorgeous to look at, and is packed to the brim with content (and there's a free patch coming that will introduce even more content).

Early Access Review
Really basic gameplay and lack of variety in the "masters" quashed the exciment I had for the concept. Can't recommend it in it's current state but maybe with future content expansion.

This game can play like a cross between Starfox 64's "all range mode" sections, and Zone of the Enders. The graphics are gorgeous, the gameplay is amazing with tight controls, and it even manages to create an engaging atmosphere and story. If you're a fan of either of those games, or any sort of space combat really, you'll love this game.
