At first, I planned to buy the PS5 physical version at release to enjoy the game on a big TV, but it stayed out of stock for ages, so I eventually gave up.
After months, a friend visited me and we talked about Clair Obscur Expedition 33. I finally decided to buy the game on Steam with a discount and see for myself: And woah, I really should have played earlier. Expedition 33 is mind-blowing and now I get why the reviews are so dithyrambic!

Finished in about 50 hours, I still have many zones to explore and bosses to defeat!

The visuals are impressive and the art direction is perfect, the studio managed to create an amazing world filled with emotions. As for the story, I won’t say anything to avoid spoilers, but I loved the whole experience and it’s the kind of adventure you really have to live yourselves. The characters elevate the whole narrative.

The OST is a delicacy for the ears and it’s crazy that the composer wasn’t known before. You can change the difficulty whenever you want so perfect for any players.
Clair Obscur Expedition 33 borrows some mechanics from souls-like games and it works really well.

Turn-per-turn usually isn’t my cup of tea but Clair Obscur Expedition 33 makes it genuinely interesting : thanks to the parry and dodge mechanics. And I’ve got to say, I’m a fanboy of parry-mechanic games!

Just one small bad thing: you can’t rebind the controller, so if you’re used to parrying with LB, switching to RB isn’t possible. Good thing there’s a mod that fixes this.

I do recommend Clair Obscur Expedition 33! You won’t be disappointed. My 2025 GOTY.
