Some stuttering on a 2060 at 1440p, mostly fine though. Haven't crashed or experienced these insane lag spikes other people seem to be talking about. If you liked Dark Souls 3 I imagine you'll like this game as well.

With the release of the Downfall expansion, the game is at a point where I feel comfortable re-evaluating my review.

On release, the game while interesting lacked any real replayability for me, completing the story in less then a day and leaving me with nothing to do but either grind PvP battles, or wander around the world (which can be very confusing when starting off) killing AI opponents. The only motivation to continue playing at that point was to get a rare mask for my Absolver which could only be attained through PvP rewards, though after spending over a week of constant grinding with no luck, like most of the player base, I simply stopped playing and uninstalled the game, as it no longer interested me.

One of Absolvers largest selling points for me aside from the unique combat, was the promise of free DLC. Downfall, aside from patches and feature reworks, is the first of this DLC we've seen since the games launch last year, and with it I finally feel like I can recommend this game. Given I would still highly recommend purchasing this game during a sale, atleast until more content is added, as end game your freedoms narrow to the multiple PvP game modes, or the currently single PvE dungeon (my favorite new addition). As mentioned earlier, a massive portion of the playerbase quit not long after the games launch, and as a result of this, the active player count rests during the day between 200 - 300. These are the numbers from steamcharts, I would assume the player count is higher on console, as it this game simply plays better with a controller.

Absolver plays SO much better with a controller in fact that you, atleast in the beginning, will be at a significant disadvantage to players who are using them, should you choose to pursue PvP to any serious extent. On the topic of PvP, the matchmaking system in it's current state atleast is terrible at best, seemingly non existent on most days. I'll find myself paired against players over 10 times my level in most cases, and brand new players who don't stand a chance the rest of the time. Though when you do find an opponent around your skill level, the fights can be alot of fun and often result in alot of amazing "matrix style" moments and battles that make the game worth getting.

Absolver has almost a Dark Souls reminiscent approach to the ingame history and lore, providing just enough information via gear descriptions and npcs to spark an interest, and leaving much to the wild speculation of the discord users. If you do plan on purchasing Absolver, I would definitely recommend playing with friends, or if you have none, join the discord server and make some.

Downfall has me excited for the future of this game and I truly hope Slowclap doesn't abandon it, it has improved astoundingly since launch and still shows great potential.
