Fighting games are like writing. Progress is hard to measure, and there’s no point in comparing yourself to other people. Just tell your own story, make it the best you can. It will suck, and that’s ok. Every set is a blank page, and every time you fill it, even if it's not better than the last, you’re moving yourself closer to the final draft. Trust in that, hold on to it no matter what. That final draft will still suck when you eventually reach it, but it’ll be a suck you are proud of, that you can point to and say “I did my best.”
