What a fantastic expansion!!! It absolutely blew my expectations out of the water. It couldn't have been easy to follow up something as gargantuan as Downpour, but The Watcher is incredibly bizarre and new, and really evokes that same experience of your first playthrough in a brand new way.

It isn't by any means a normal Rain World campaign. Definitely do not go into this expecting a Downpour-esque DLC - you will constantly doubt where you are at any given moment, and you won't always know where to go or what to do. That is by no means a bad thing, and I feel it amplifies the original Rain World experience very well for a truly experienced player, giving them the chance to lose themselves all over again. It's an entirely unique experience, and you will stumble around for hours on end, which is exactly what Rain World does so perfectly. Take your time with the DLC, and you'll do just fine.

Of course, as always, the regions are incredibly gorgeous. The palettes can be bright and monotonous at times, but is found in few regions and supplements the structure of the campaign well to make it easy to identify where you are. It's a minor point of contention. The music is also fantastic. No notes. Beautiful expansion of the base game's alien music for even more regions. Extremely moving. The cutscenes were also very well done, and beautifully detailed in their paint-like quality.

The regions themselves, namely the modded ones, do often have a problem of being hard or confusing to navigate that is beyond the scope of the original game, Their rooms, when not complete dead ends or possessing needless bottomless pits, had confusing geometry that causes you to check the map and disrupt the gameplay experience just to check if you could move through a specific area of the room. I recall this being a problem with the original modded regions themselves, and I feel it could be much more effective if the developers modified these regions further.

Despite this, overall, The Watcher DLC was a fantastic experience and nearly every choice with its direction was an incredibly good one. It decentralizes the worldbuilding, letting you see the entire world of the lore, and gives you such a unique experience to the original Rain World campaign that it absolutely is worth everything you spend on it. Highly, highly recommend.
