Early Access Review
(Hopefully) temporary negative review as the game has been crashing computers (total freeze and force reboot) on the latest Windows build for the past month. Averaged about a crash an hour, got sick of it pretty quickly. Once this is fixed, I will update the review.

TLDR: It's a decent game. I really love the art and music. The game rides this thin line between cute and creepy very well, which gives it a pretty unique atmosphere that I haven't really gotten out of many other games. Most of the puzzles were satisfying to solve, but with how dense this game is with them, some certainly fell flat. While the majority of the collectible hunting that I completed was fun, it definitely started to drag once I was running out of things to collect. This game also has some occasional tricky platforming, but I personally found it to be just hard enough to be engaging, and just forgiving enough to not be tedious. The rest of this review will mostly focus on gripes I have with the game, but keep in mind I still think it's a solid 7/10 and worth your time if you enjoy this genre.

First, I'm not quite sure if there is a better way to handle inventory management, but I did find myself getting mildly annoyed frequently when trying to switch between certain items; either I would have to push my right bumper 6 times, or fiddle with the menu, and with some portions of the game requiring pretty precise timing, it kind of took me out of the "flow state" of trying to solve a problem.

However, I think my biggest gripe with the game is collectible hunting after the initial run (mild spoilers from here on). The game gives you certain items, such as the top and bouncy ball, which come late enough into exploring the map to where it felt as if I had to retread the whole thing in order to find the specific use cases for these items. There is an item (the UV Lantern) that seems to primarily exist to make this hunt easier, but you get that even later than the other collectible-specific items, so it only really helped me once or twice.

The main reason I started to lose patience with this, though, is because travelling is really limited in this game. There's not really a great way to get through most screens quickly, and the fast travel option, while definitely useful, still forced a lot of walking over the same screens again and again to try X item in Y scenario because a couple of tiles were missing on my map. While it wasn't so bad when I had many collectibles left to find, once I was finishing up the search, I found it was often taking me a minute or more just to get to areas I marked on my map. Maybe 25% of these spots were actual secrets, with the rest being some spike I didn't destroy, or some part of a dark room that didn't get mapped. I wonder if it would have been better to have some way to teleport between save points rather than a small amount of set locations.

To conclude, if you like platforming, puzzles, and collectible hunting, I'd recommend this game at full price (I think I got my money's worth). If you're not sure, I'd recommend waiting for a sale, as $25 is on the pricier side, and it may take time for you to know if this game is right for you (it took an hour or two for me).

And in case any dedicated players are wondering, I only did the first two layers of content up until the second ending; I managed to collect 3 of the secret rabbits, but honestly some of them are so esoteric that I had no chance of figuring it out on my own, as my brain is just not large enough for that.

On a replay, I've realized that I like this game a lot more than I dislike it. The main game has some kind of long and boring stages, but the danmaku is really pretty. The extra and phantasm stages are great.

Good game if you're familiar with Souls stuff. Not sure how it'd go if you weren't, but I found it to be at the perfect level of difficulty throughout. $60 is a lot though, I'd wait for a sale.
