Early Access Review

Great and fun little game that does requires some skill and understanding of physics. Easy to learn but hard to master while still being fun to watch the deflected asteroids go into the sun.

Maia is a nice approach to all the survival and base building games and it has a sci fi setting. Given SciFi it does not do magic but is more a "hard scifi" kind of game. The airflow e.g. is modeled realisticly and solar storms disturb your communications and energy transfers.

You cannot control your colonists directly (that technology has yet to be discovered) so it adds a feel of the Sims to the game. In result when the game tells you that it is dangerous going out, guess what some of your colonists suddenly urge to do? Right, head out to the danger zone! On every corner you will see the developers humor integrated into the game, great!

The developer, Simon Roth, updates regularly and is very transparent in his development and progress. The game still has some issues, but given the alpha state, it is already pretty playable. Bugs are hotfixed and the support for Linux is actively supported. I, for one, am really looking forward to the 1.0 release.

Update:

Release 1.0 just happened at this game is now packed with missions and voice overs and even more extremly detailed simulated entities. Also more content is promised.

Nice little game especially to try out the VR glasses. You're always busy either repairing or fleeing from attacking spaceships. Graphics are okay. Hope to see a full featured game from Phr00t on this theme!

Don't expect a game to play. You will be disappointed. But if you are open to stories told by this kind of "walking simulator", this is a nice experience. The story is nice and well developing well throughout the storyline. Great job!
